It sounded like the gorilla had the boy for 10 minutes. It seems like the zookeepers would have been able to retrieve the boy themselves. Gorillas must have different temperments than your pets. I would think them to be tamer than a gorilla in the wild, but maybe not. The MSN article said he went underneath a fence and fell into the moat. At the Memphis Zoo the gorillas are behind glass. You would have to climb over the glass to get in there.
I saw that he went under the fence etc. but where the heck were his parents. I also agree that they had to shoot the gorilla because a tranquilizer dart would have taken too long. I feel really bad for the little boy too. He was just being a kid.
I remember seeing something similar a few years back where the mother gorilla actually protected the kid from the other gorillas.

Damnt I just saw the video, that was really disturbing. especially because the animal was obviously intelligent and protecting the child, it understood what was happening. If it had intentions of killing the kid it could have broke his neck instantly, right?
Who knows. Animals are unpredictable. Twice the gorilla dragged the boy across the water so that was scary in itself. It's an unfortunate incident that could have been prevented.
