Funding a classic with MTurk earnings

    Recently, I bought a car that's been in the family since new - 1966. It was barely driven, and has just 30,000 miles on it. Granted, the original six cylinder was removed in the early 70s and replaced with a 302. I took ownership of it about 2 weeks ago, and I plan on using MTurk earnings to slowly get it ready, and possibly to share some insight with others.

    As you can see, it hasn't been given the attention in deserves for over 5 years. With the Turk earnings, I plan to do a front disc brake conversion, replace the spark plugs and wires, buy new tires, and get a set of Cragars to give it that 70's street machine look. Provided Flora makes an exception and allows this thread to stay open (given it isn't an item of sorts) I will continue to update on it every so often. I plan to have it ready to go by the end of the summer. An estimated $2.5k is needed.

    It's perfectly fine! It'll stay up as long as you want. This thread is about mturk goals and that's your goal!

    Can't wait to see the update! It's a beautiful car. It's a great project that you will have fun watching it come alive.

    First update: getting a fuel siphoning system tomorrow to drain the tank. Anyone who's done it before knows how fun it is.

    My PE for today is $12 because I'm juggling tech school with my full time job. I'm got to put that towards the plugs and wires. After that I will probably save up for tires, and lastly for front disc conversion. This may be my last update for awhile because I have a few real life things to tend to first. I'll have more pictures of the actual, cleaned off car after I get it out.

    I'm going to hopefully have the opportunity today to set aside some time and get it running. I'll record it if I can. With all said so far - I'm about $100 into it of the $2000 total. Oil change, plugs and wires, and the siphon pump. I realize this is turning more into a DIY project than it is an actual goal so my apologies.

    She's alive! She spit a bit of gas and a little fire at me in the process. Family never told me they had it build like a race car. I'll record it next time when I get the chance. Up next: saving up for a disc conversion.

    It looks like I've run into a setback- I have to find a specific part for the front brakes in order to do the disc brake conversion. I've been trying to find it everywhere I can think of, to no avail. If I can't find one used, this will be about a $500 part.

    Found a set for just $60. Facebook parts swap groups are a life saver. $210/$2500

    The car wouldn't stay running today. Think a float in the carb is stuck. It's also taking forever to turn over and I haven't put the new plugs on but I should. I might need to add a new fuel pump and filter to the parts list which is another $200 or so. No major problems, just the typical symptoms of a car sitting for a decade.

    Done some unexpected work on the carb, and trying to work out a few ghosts lying in the rear end and driveshaft. This is the first time in about a month I've had the chance to touch the car, otherwise it's still running good.
    ETA: You can see how long this car has been sitting just by looking at the fingerprint marks I left on the air cleaner.

    I found some good parts at a junkyard today, among them is an 8 inch rear end, brand new differential, and disc brakes to go on the rear, so now I'm getting 4 wheel disc brakes for the cost of 2. Need to scrounge up another $300 for a new dual bowl master cylinder and a brake booster, and I'm 99% of the way done with this project.
    ETA: And most likely some new brake lines.

    I won't have any fresh pictures for a while unless something happens, I don't plan on having it out until this coming up spring.

    It's a nice blue color. Can't wait to see it all clean and polished up! Hope it has no dents on it.

    The starter died. Took it apart to figure out what was wrong with it, and the internals are rusted shut. I'm going to get a mini starter to avoid heat soak in the future, so another $200 or so expense.
