Well at least this one is a paid screener...and surprise I'm eligible! I'll see how it is. EDIT: See below. Ouch, did you read this in the instructions? Screener for later group interaction studies that pay up to $6 (and take about 50 minutes). A pretest must be taken first (pays $0.50 for about 15 minutes), and eligible participants from the pretest will be invited to continue to the group studies. The screener takes about ten minutes and pays $0.15.

Time: 60 minutes Hits Available: 1 Reward: $1.50 Qualifications: Male has been granted Got an email about this one. Don't know if the "Male" qual is the requester's or one of Amazon's new ones. In any case, it was WAY less than the 30 minutes advertised. Forgot to note the time, but under 10 minutes in no hurry.
I noticed those Amazon zero pay quals probably do pay off. The surveys usually pay decent. Probably worth it to take those qual tests. There are 6 of them up. https://www.mturk.com/mturk/searchbar?selectedSearchType=hitgroups&requesterId=AXKBO5V1Y75RL
There's no way to see how many requesters are using these is there? My big concern is that while obviously my gender won't change (well okay I could pull a Caitlyn Jenner) the kind of phone I use could my relationship status could etc... and I would hate to be pigeon holed to fixed demographics that in reality are quite fluid. But it might be worth doing them all if there is a lot of work and I would miss out on more by not doing them even if they are no longer correct down the line.
Agreed, and they have an annoying habit of combining things that are quite likely to change with things that will never change in the same HIT. But basically if you don't to them you won't ever qualify for any HIT that uses the new quals. So something beats nothing.
Just don't accept one and return it because then you are locked out. I did one by mistake and now I can't do some hits because of it.
No way to know who's using them or how many. I took the ones that I felt were permanent like Education. I don't like the Employment and Home one. Didn't take that one. Too many questions that can change. I doubt if they let us do it again to update it.
I haven't done any for fear that requesters might use the demographics to screen me out of potential future hits. Then again I'm a glass half full person.
I like the idea of demographic HITs but as usual Amazon didn't even bother to think this though. I've also moved a few times and I've even changed my address in Amazon to reflect the move but I'm always US-FL for my location (which I guess is okay because I always seem to spend a few months there each year). Which isn't a big deal since 99.9 percent of the HITs are not state specific but again it's just another example of amazon asshattery that doesn't have to be since the solutions to our smallest problems are pretty simple and obvious. If I was running a crowd sourcing site most of the tools we have running as scripts would be incorporated into the site I mean how hard is it to give you the daily total? That should be something everone wants and isn't hard for them to display but no I have to run a script for that which every script I have running is taking resources away from my computer that wouldn't even be an issue for Amazon. Okay done ranting!!!!
But on the new and improved site they'll eventually be forcing us to use your ID will be on EVERY PAGE!!! (Except of course the non-mturk pages like qualtrics where there is actually the possibility of needing it.) And when you search for HITs directly on mturk (you do this all the time, right?) they've managed to fit more crap receipt HITs on each screen!!! It's like it never crossed their minds to ask actual turkers what new features they'd find useful.
Yeah and in fact more often than not the changes to the site make things more inefficient. Hell even if they didn't want to ask us some of it seems like common sense and of course they could just lurk on their own forums as well as the outside ones like this one. I also think "How much money does Bezos need?" and then I forget how money make people greedy bastards. I hate the strong arm practices amazon uses on their main site to unfairly squash competition as if they don't have a good market share already and don't need to resort to that. And they don't care about the people who supply them with merch they simply can't get without 3rd party sellers. If you have a lock on a product and they see it selling they will go out of their way to try and force you to reveal where you get your product under the guise of them saying "We want to make sure your source is legit" and then they get the information from you and they go directly to the source and cut you out if they can. Fucking ungrateful bastards.
I asked Amazon about the demo hits they replied *surprise* you can contact them to modify anything that changed so much wrong with that, but that's what they have now. could have let you take the demo hit more than once a year maybe? how do you even keep track of which information they asked for? do they even turk? *another 1.50GBP followup on PA if you're eligible
They need only look at PA to see how to handle demographics. Couldn't be simpler. Now I understand wanting to stop people from retaking the demo HITs every time a survey pops up they don't qualify for. Especially since on mturk (and unlike PA) the requirements are listed right there on each HIT for everyone to see. I don't see any harm letting people retake the demo HITs every few months though if they change phones or find a new job or graduate college or...
