Hello all! I have just found this forum and Mturks after reading an e-book on work at home opportunities. I have so far only dabbled, made a few bucks, but the thing I like best is that it is kinda fun. I used to spend my days off and nights playing world of warcraft, but now I need to make a little extra money.

I know im not gonna make a killing now, next week, or even next month, but I would like some advice.

What direction should I start qualifying in? I dont know a foreign language, and I am only partly familiar with writing.

Would it be worth it to get a webcam? i have seen numerous $10 "try my website" HITS that I would like to try.

Thanks for any help, and I look forward to being a part of this community.

I'm pretty much of a newbie myself compared to some others in the forum. I've learned a few things, though, that make a difference to me.

    1. If you're not alert when you're exhausted, don't Turk. You'll make a mistake and possibly pay for it with a rejection. And rejections are so not good.

    2. Put up with the dinky hits while you get your count up, and keep them in mind as you're reaching for #1000.

3.One penny, one nickel, one dime at a time....it all adds up. Seriously.

    4. Visit these forums often. Keep up with the recommendations, cautions, and alerts.

    5. In the beginning, keep a wary eye on the hits that offer more than $1.50. If it appears to be too good to be true, you can bet your *&^ it is.

    6. When you feel like screaming, scream, and then get back to work.

I'll leave the technical advice to the more experienced.:)

    3. I agree with this, BUT make sure they are very, very fast hits if they're the 1-10 cent hits. I have a timer on my phone that I use while doing a "test batch" of hits, to figure out what my hourly wage for them would be. Basically if you can do a 2 cent hit in 15 seconds or under (preferably within 10 seconds), then it's probably worth it. Anything more than that, there's better ways to spend your time on turk.

    5. Generally good advice, BUT there are many exceptions. I've done quite a few HITs ranging anywhere from $1.50-$5.00. Generally these are surveys conducted by Universities, they can be a gold mine some days where you'll see 5 or 6 $1-$2 HITs at a time.

I had one day where I did $25 for the day, and only 2 of them were $0.50 hits, the rest were anywhere from $1-$4.

One more bit of advice... figure out what you're good at and can do quickly, and stick with that as much as possible. For example, a lot of people make good money doing transcriptions. Personally, I'm horrible at it and it takes me way too long to complete just a couple minutes of audio. I type fast, about 95 wpm, but listening and typing what I hear I'm not so good with, so I leave those HITs alone.

    Thanks

Ok Thanks so far. i am only at 41 hits so far. Almost all are surveys of 0.25-0.75. I am still learning and have sure made a few mistakes. Tried the business card entry on and I dont know how you do that in 10-15 seconds. Took me a minute just to do the typing.

I would like to try the usability test ones, but have never seen one so I dont know how they are even supposed to be done. Is there a sample anywhere you can go to see a good one?

I would also like to try the transcription ones but I am nowhere near a 95pm typer. More like a 60 wpm typer.

And what is the Real Estate Researcher like? I would like to try that Qualification test, but I have never seen one and dont want to mess it up. I would have to wait a year to retake it.

Any advice? I know its nubish, but i would rather pick your brains than make my own mistakes. Thanks!

    In agreement with everything. :)

As I made my little list I was thinking more in terms of simple advice for the real beginners. Speaking only for myself, because that's all I'm qualified to do actually, I needed to do those tiny hits just to be able to get used to the process. Those were simple enough, not the least bit intimidating, and even when they took longer than seems reasonable they helped me gain the self-confidence I needed. After the first 100 or so hits, I reached out for more. I'm a cautious person, more analytic, and I have to blame my age for that, but for me it works. It may not work for everyone, the uber-brave, who can jump into this thing with both feet. :p

I guess the point is that each person needs to look at all the advice and decide which way works best for them, along with a little trial and error, perhaps. And never be afraid to ask the simplest of questions. That's what keeps forums like this one alive. ;)

The HITs posted by TryMyUi Administrator don't require a webcam, just a microphone to record your voice.

OK. When I try the test it says no webcam found. I have a mic, i will hook it up and try again. Any hints on passing the test better? What do they want you to do? Thanks
