I just clicked on a hit that took me too what it looked like was an advertising page. They were asking an email address and what gift card I wanted, I didn't answer it and returned the hit. It was only 5 or 6 questions. Oh and if you trusted your Facebook privacy and what email was to your facebook or something. Is this ok for them to do this or were they trying to hack my facebook?
I am scared now because I reported the hit and if I was wrong to report it and they ban me I am going to cry. I desperately need this little job. I probably won't ever report a hit again now. I just hope I didn't screw myself.
However, a lot of turkers still do these sorts of HITs, and have a separate email account just for stuff like this...I mean, it's $3.95. Some won't pass that up, even if it is technically against the rules.
They do ban you worrying about being banned though. It's part of the self fulfilling prophecy clause in the user agreement.
Really, do you think that helps me? I am a 54 year old woman who is barely making ends meets and I was serious when I asked the question. I thought I was doing the right thing by reporting them and just want to double check. I have medical issues that prevent me from doing a lot of jobs outside the home and I found this and I am so happy to have the opportunity to do this. I know because of how I feel now about this no matter if I feel it is wrong in the future I will never hit that report button again. I was just hoping someone would reassure me that I will be ok. Right now I can't even afford to buy any groceries if I want to pay bills.
I don't want to come across as mean, but at the age of 54 you should have learned by now that worrying about the past doesn't help anything. What is done is done. Also, don't worry, it was a justified report, and that is what the button is there for. You did the right thing.
I know you are right about the worrying but when you are living like I am you can't help but worry sometimes. I appreciate your response.
They won't ban you for reporting a HIT and as far as I know, the requesters won't know their HIT was reported unless it's taken down. Even then, they can't trace anything to you. It's fine to report HITs that ask for personal information (email, phone, address, etc). Amazon will ban accounts, but not for reporting HITs. If enough requesters hard block you to stop you from doing their HITs, you can be banned. You will get an email from Amazon if someone hard blocks you for poor work. Usually 3 hard blocks will end your account. Provided you do good work for reputable requesters and don't try to cheat the system, you should be fine. EDIT: Oh, and make sure you install Turk Opticon so you can see reviews on requesters and stay away from ones with really bad ratings: http://turkopticon.differenceengines.com/
Yes I can take a joke in most cases but you know what, I am hungry and I am tired and yes I was worried. I don't sponge off the government and my life is hard. I qualify for food stamps and I won't go get them because there are too many people who take advantage of the systems and so I rely on chickens I raise and eggs and things I have canned and frozen to try to get through. Forgive me if I came across not very nice. That is not who I am.
As others said, don't worry about making a report about a requester. That is what we are suppose to do to warn other Turkers to be aware of requesters so we don't get burnt.
