I agree with the author - sloppy work by the requester. No conspiracy or need to fill some psychological needs. Plain old everyday, sloppy work.

If it was sloppiness, he wouldn't have done it a second time. Who the hell is that sloppy about anything?

I agree with mostly everything in this article. I do an unrelated question, why is it that the only forum that Lighting Buff tried to communicate with is TN?

Lighting Buff screwed up their Hit, they should have scratched it, reversed the rejected Hits and started over....The problem with that is that if you read below the article, to the comments, there are major SCAMMERS out there. It says that one worker posted over 1,000 Hits with the fixture going in the kitchen..that also ruins it for all of us who actually try and then our work gets rejected. So we can't just be upset with the requester but also all of the SCAMMERS. What upsets me the most is that I try. I try hard to make sure that I'm doing the work Honestly, being able only to complete a few Hits and then some a-hole just decides..."I'll just pick this for everything" and hog up over 1,000 Hits.

It is obvious to me that if Lighting Buff had reviewed the work submitted, even quickly glanced at it, SCAMMERS would have stood out, reject them, and block them.

Sorry for the Rant but I'm seriously upset.

That is why I put the comment about there being at least two other forums besides TN that I know of.

The person that wrote the article is a member of TN. Well glad he/she took initiative and hopefully they are speaking for ALL workers and not just TN members when they are trying to fix things.

Personally, I didn't submit that many, it was a few. But it's done, my numbers weren't affected. But if anyone from this forum got majorly screwed by this requester I suggest you email them like the article says in the posted comments...they might reverse the rejections.

This person is trying to recruit requesters to use the TN qualification system??? I don't know what that is but read this blog...http://turkrequesters.blogspot.com/2012/06/thinking-about-using-amazon-masters.html

It looks like a copy and paste from this forum...I don't know what other forums look like, the name seemed familiar...IDK, either way I took it as they are basically using us an example of bad workers.

TN qualification system? What's that? Does it have anything to do with this bit: joining the forum at http://turkernation.com and only allowing the best workers access to your hits.

Does that sound to anybody else like they're trying to get requesters to restrict access to hits only to those who belong to TN? Please tell me I'm being paranoid.

Yes it does seem like a TN promotion. Funny as the BB screamed at someone for trying to promote TN before. I guess this poster is still on her good side. LOL

I agree.... about the trying to make this forum workers look like shit. I am assuming the same will be done about my forum in the near future if it hasn't already.

That's why I dug deeper. What felt weird was the last paragraph of the article...

"You don't have to pay those solution providers if you start by communicating with workers on TurkerNation before you publish your hits."

So I just pulled up all of the blogs written by this person and it made me feel the same way...paranoid. I hope that Amazon has something in place to protect all workers.

Protect all workers from what? Personally I feel giving worker ID along with forum screen names is not very smart. It takes away the anonymity between the two. However, we all have done it from time to time by inviting requesters to talk with us on forums using the mturk contact system. Hopefully most will think twice before they do so though with new requesters.

Amazon does nothing to protect the workers, and until the workers are willing to receive lower pay in exchange for safety measures for the Turkers they never will. The requesters pay Amazon (quite a hefty % IIRC) so why would they want to mess that up? Money talks and bullshit walks. Workers are expendable; they are a liability where requesters are an asset, and workers are easily replaceable. If the system shuts down, they open a physical business and hire full-time workers while we resort to welfare and food stamps. No, Amazon does not have something in place to protect it's workers and that is why that blog and this forum and all the tools are so important for workers to educate themselves with. You are your only protection.

Oh gosh, I remember when I was an optimist. :::insert longing sigh here:::

No, Amazon doesn't care about workers, especially not workers posting on this forum. I don't think they can make that any clearer. They stay out of any disputes unless it negatively affects a requester/their bottom line. End of story.

Also, this requester is the reason I avoid new requesters like Ebola. Amazon does nothing to help new requesters like this one, and turkers always end up paying the price. This fiasco could have been prevented if Amazon had better tools and support available to requesters.

I just hope all of you who were wrongly rejected by this requester can get those rejections reversed, and I wish you the best of luck with that.

I did get my massive batch of rejections from Lighting Buff reversed, but only because I found the info posted on this forum and asked that the third party involved review my work. Despite the reversal, I would be reluctant to work for this requester again since my multiple emails never elicited a response from the requester him/herself. I find it unfortunate that a resolution required ferreting out the info rather than a straightforward response.

Of course, Amazon had the usual response - we don't intervene (i.e., you're on your own - requesters are always right, no matter what evidence you provide to the contrary)

What a complete loser this LB is. He wasted his time and a lot of other people's over a mere $500. That is no way to run a business; you have to accept your mistakes and live with the consequences. He is a very weak individual for blaming Amazon for his troubles. No matter how poor their software and support is, there are ways to overcome it with a little bit of planning and diligence.

I had 9 rejects out of 14 which is the worst of any requester I worked for.
