Hi I'm sure many of you have at some point tried to do some work for Classify This "Is this a web page? Easily decide if the image is a webpage." Like me you probably ran when you found out that spammers were hitting up the tasks like crazy and causing good workers to get rejected. I've been talking to the requester and he has now banned the spammers and is keeping an eye out for any new ones. He is wanting to build a base of good workers for the tasks. I know they don't pay much ($0.02) but they go fast and you can get a lot done per hour. If you worked these tasks in the past and didn't like what was happening so quit working them please contact the requester and talk to him about the changes. He really would like the good workers to come back. He plans on posting 4500 of these per day. I believe he also plans on building a base of trusted workers that anyone new who tries to spam ... they will be the one that gets the rejection because their work will be checked against the work of a trusted worker. I am a trusted worker and may be his only one at this point and I can tell you I do the work exactly as it should be done and if I'm not sure I talk daily with the requester to discuss what is correct/incorrect. In the words of the military....we are looking for a few good men....or women Thanks!! I'm sorry everyone. I forgot to mention a little tip/hint for this particular task. Any log-on pages are to be marked No. If you get a page with just a log in box...even though the website name is on the page it is still to be marked as a no.
Hi Huntress, although I'm glad you're having a good experience with this requester I would still stay clear. In the other forum someone just told that they had done 1000 Hits and because some were wrong he rejected ALL 1000 HITs! His explanation was that he can't manually check all 1000 so he rejects them all. Not like you say that he's comparing the work with that work from other trusted workers. Thanks, but no thanks! He's looking for trusted workers - what about building up his reputation as a trusted requester? He definitely isn't one and I feel very sorry for the workers who wasted their time and get all of their work rejected because they did some mistakes. It just ain't right, imo.
Both Classify it and Classify this are worth avoiding. People have had bad experiences working on both. If the requester wants trusted workers, he should first check his approval/rejection policy.
Hi. Thanks for telling me of the experiences. It is rather odd though....before I even talked to him I had done a bunch one night...I got two rejections out of well over 1,000 (was an insomnia night and I worked for 6 hours on the task). Are you positive that the other person wasn't just all about sour grapes? I do know he rejected and banned some people who were using bots. I will certainly take what ya'll say under advisement and speak to him about this. I don't like to be accusatory without seeing the evidence for myself but I can ask him how he's doing the approval/rejection of the other workers. Most of what I said above is what he tells me he wants to do. That's why I said for people to contact him and talk to him first. I don't think he's built up his "core yet" so I thought he was still primarily doing best 2 of of 3 (without spammers). I have already suggested to him using a bonus method, clarifying his instructions in the HIT, etc. Can you give me the link for the other forum? I keep hearing about it but don't know where to find it. I mostly lurk most times because I learn new things, who to avoid, who to work for, etc that way. Thanks!!
At Turker nation, look into the "Hall of Fame and Shame" sub-forum. You'll learn a lot, not only about Classify It/This (there is a looong thread about these two) but also about many other requesters. Basically it's great a requester is in touch with you and takes suggestions on board. Unfortunately this particular requester has managed to build up a very bad reputation for himself. People have been banned from MTurk permanently because he blocks workers. So be careful. Read the thread and draw your own conclusions. You could also send him the link (as you are in touch with him), would be nice to hear from him what he has to say.
I did send him a message a while ago and sent him the link. I told him that since requester reputation is important to getting good workers...just like having a good worker reputation is important to having good requesters give bonuses etc...that he should check the threads out and do what he needs to. I will watch and see how he handles this situation and then make a determination. In the meantime I plan on being very cautious since I don't know what is what. I hate to draw conclusions just off of what people say (no offense anyone). I just know how I am when I am angry...I can go on a rant and sometimes say things that I shouldn't or wouldn't say under normal circumstances. There may be a backstory that none of us know about. If he doesn't respond to me...that will tell me a lot. If he does respond to the threads then that will also tell us a lot. Thanks for the warning...I certainly don't want to risk getting banned since I am disabled and have very few forms of work that I can do anymore. If he does send me an explanation that will help workers I will pass it on. Hi guys Please know I appreciate your warnings. I did read all the posts in the other forum. With the Classify It/Classify This it appeared that most of the gripes there were with Classify It. He has talked to me about this and satisfied my questions. I will be as cautious as I always am but so far he's treated me good including giving me a very nice bonus in the past when it has been warranted. My advice truly is if someone doubts then they should talk to the guy before making a judgment. Because we are unable to "see" what is going on we just can't know the reasons why. The fact that for a long time this guy had a good reputation (as stated many times in the other forum) should have earned him enough benefit of the doubt to at least talk to him. If you want to do his work contact him and ask him what he specifically should be said "no" to....for example...those log on pages. Another example is Craigslist....most times it is a yes...but if it is an ad that has been pulled it no longer has full content so it is a no under that circumstance.
I know this is a bit of an old thread but I thought I would put my 2 cents in. Since he started posting his task, I have never had issue. I've completed at least 3700 of his hits with an aproximate 20-30 rejections. He is definitely one of my favorite requesters and as long as he keeps it up on his side, he will always tend to be one of my favorites. I am always on the look out for his hits. Now, someone said they "read" or "heard" about how this person got 1000 rejections b/c if some were wrong they are all wrong. Obviously, they were ALL WRONG. Otherwise how would this person know? As well as their are bad requesters, their are also bad workers who try to make themselves look better when they put themselves in a bad situation. I honestly don't think this requester would do such a thing without a good explanation like someone using a bot. Which the person who had all those rejections probably used.
I did maybe 50, and about a third were rejected. I never, ever get rejections because I work hard and follow the instructions to the letter. That's why it's so much more infuriating when I see rejections popping up into my account summary. So sorry, joshm89, your smugness can go elsewhere. I'm a testament to how lousy this requester is.
I've had a boderline acceptable amount of rejections from this guy; if anybody is complaining about rejections from this requester I am not at all surprised. That being said, this requester is mostly OK--however, I have learned to skip hits that I feel other, less-informed turkers would have a different opinion on than I.

Forget that, please avoid this requester he is a great scammer, i have worst experience with him, please avoid this requester(again), I have worked thrice on his HIT first two time he substantially rejected my HITs (i believe that they rejected those HIT that i replied With "This is not a web page". And last time all 350 HIT. Aah..............back stabbing. And trust me i am not a stupid who is unable to understand their instructions. I worked with due diligence. I think they save their money by rejecting most of the workers HITs, and they lure good worker (like me) after accepting some of their work, when worker take more work they reject all their work. I found many complains like this. Dear Huntress8 i am sure you are an associate of Classify this and trying to Glorify his reputation. For your Knowledge i tell you, that i also tried to contact That bullsh.. replied they have manually checked all my work. Friends beware a substantial rejection can ruin your Mturk Account, thankfully i survived. Listen to the trusted member like Tiger and Sonica. Not these bullsh... Rest is your choice. Dear all This is another his associate(Who knows You?). By the way take a look at Hunters First post he says "Classify this" posts around 4500 HITs in a Day, but this man claims that he has completed 3700 HIT alone, Contradicting?? These people are on a mission to lure more poor worker, so that they can get their work for free or at low cost. Avoid! Avoid!
Sorry I'm not an associate of any requester in MTurk. I'm a disabled middle aged woman with two cats and a garden (cliche' I know but what can I say). Oh yeah, I have a hubby and love to read books. I do MTurk to earn extra funds for all my exhorbitant medical bills. First off .. someone else posted about doing 3700 hits for this requester. I do believe they meant total not in one day. Secondly, I'm not an associate of any requesters. I'm a middle aged woman with 2 cats, a hubby, tons of grandchildren and a disability that doesn't allow me to work in a regular situation anymore. I read that and about died laughing as I sit here in my jammies and trying to put on my leg brace while laughing is no easy task. Moi? an associate? lol
For some people (thankfully just a handful, if not one & the same person in different forms ) here, anyone who has an opinion that differs from theirs is someone's associate. Talk about conspiracy theories!!!
I know this post is old, but does anyone know what happened to Classify This? I am one of the people who like them and I have not seen any of their hits on in over a week. They were on every evening and now nothing. Any idea?
Hey Tiger, the worker who got rejected for all his 1000 HITs must be a spammer. I have been working for classify this regularly (daily) and I always get only 1-10 rejections. Maybe out of 200 I usually get around 2-5 rejections. The last time I did, I got no rejections, nothing at all. This is my favorite HITs and I do it every day.
Haven't seen much of their work available in the last week or so, but I usually like to do their hits. I'm picky, and will skip a bunch if I don't think everyone will clearly have the answer. They pay fast, and I usually hold my breathe to see if anything has been rejected. Out of 200, I may still have 4 rejected.
First of all, you are a complete moron! You are obviously one of those people have have tried to cheat the system, but the system came back to bite you in your ass. Secondly, I have over 20,000 hits completed with a total of $454 made, mainly from Classify This. At least $420 of my earnings are from Classify This, actually. Scammers like you are what try to hurt the reputation of a great requestor and site. Hopefully since your post has been made quite a while ago you have been properly introduced to the banning on Mturk. Have a great life you ungreatful scum!
HI there. I had no problem doing "Classify this", and till a few days ago, i had just about 4-5 or no rejects in about 200 hits. But two days ago i got 50 hits rejected, and today i got 306 of 306 rejected. My ratio is now f***ed up, dropped from 95 to 67(i have just 1000 hits at all). Why don't he clears his mind and check the work between trusted workers, workers that always had the job well-done. I think that the system was from the beginning broken, and he banned good workers among the spammers because of not verifying correctly. (sorry for my english, i'm not a native). Huntress8, did you got any solution till now? a rsponse from him about this problem?
