no i doubt if it is. i mean what would be the point of having two types of blocks if they both accomplish the same objective

It's not the block that matters for AMT. What really matters is whether the block has actually occurred due to any quality issue from the worker side or whether it is a requester simply preventing someone from taking survey-like HITs twice. There is only 1 click button available to Requester for blocking a worker. I think it's the feedback they give out along with the block that distinguishes it as soft and hard.

This is one of the main issues with mTurk that I would like to see addressed. The correct answer is none of us really know. I am not even sure if Amazon knows. Ask 10 people and you will get 10 answers.

I actually contacted Amazon the other day to see if there were any blocks on me from requestors. They answered my question and some info in the e-mail would probably answer yours as well.

"To clarify the situation regarding blocks, in some cases Requesters will need to block Workers for reasons that are not related to the quality of their work. For example, they may need to ensure that the same worker does not perform the same task multiple times. In cases like this, the block does not affect the standing of your account and you will not be notified of it.

If a Requester blocks you because they are unhappy with the standard of work submitted, you will be notified of this so that you can take action to improve the quality of your work. I can see that there are no blocks related to work quality on your account."
