Hey to those who have gotten the Top-Tier qualification, can anybody give me some tips on how to get the qualification? My first time I didnt get top tier, but I got the E-Commerce qualification and the second time I didn`t get anything. Is there a particular length it has to be because I average about 400 words for the esays. I would LOVE if somebody could help me. Thank you!!!

Not sure what to tell you, but based on the feedback that I and others have been getting, serial commas, future tense, and filler content are not good. They like clever and straight forward writing. You need some strong attention to detail and good grammar. Brush up on the AP style guide too.

I just got the Top Tier and my article was 687 words. I kind of followed the format in the example. Intro paragraph, some items that I was writing about - using headings, and then a closing paragraph.

Would anyone care to share their top tier essays? I will not be plagiarizing, just studying the specimen

Don't plaguerize. Keep it unique and interesting is important. Other than that, you just need good grammar and be able to divide the paragraphs in order of how you describe things. I passed both first time.

I'm reading some info on AP style, in preparation for taking the qualification test, and I had a question, for those that have taken it.

The instructions say to "Include headings with accompanying descriptions in your article." I assume this means to use section headings to demarcate the different sections of the article, but what I want to know is how you are to do it. Are there formatting options available, once I've accepted the HIT? Or do you just put the heading on a line by itself, or what? I'm a little nervous about the test, since I haven't had to write anything to professional standards in a few years, and I don't want to mess up on something small!

I'm not sure if it's changed since I took it, but for the test, you just put the heading on a separate line, like:

    DO Dance the Macarena

In order to dance the Macarena, you need the song, at least five feet of room and a total lack of dignity. Never let anyone see you dance this popular dance or you risk social alienation.

And so on. In the actual writing HITs, they give you separate text boxes for titles, links, intros, conclusions, whatever, but I think the test is still just one big, undivided text box.

    Hi guys,
This is a very information thread. I have only submitted 2 articles and it seemed like it took forever for them to be approved. Having a little issue with present tense, but working on it and also totally misread the instructions for headings and capitalized them -oops. Anyway, hoping to get better at this because it is stressful wondering if they will soft-block me or not. I guess I'll just keep plugging away. I love the callouts. Can whip them out pretty fast. I am really leery on MTurk tho. I can't see how people do hundreds of batch HITS. I'm afraid of rejection I guess. Anyway, thanks for all the article writing tips. It's good to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't like AP style writing.

I really want to try for it. It's just that I'm new to the Qualification and I'm scared I'm gonna get called out/rejected for not doing them right lol

I had one article early on that they just hated. They actually said that they couldn't use it. They paid me anyway and I never lost the qual. I'm not saying not to be careful, but I wouldn't hold back for fear of rejection.

I can't possibly write 25 articles in a week. I can only write during my lunch hour and a little at home when the kids don't need either computer for homework. I'm lucky to get 2 in a day. I do Call Outs to fill in gaps. I still think it's an awesome incentive and I hope some of you get it.

To those new to the qual: Here's what I do:

I search page for "can" as it is a filler word that they hate and one of my crutches. Example: New York can be a great place for families vs New York is a great place for families.

I search for "will" as it is future tense. I don't intend to do it, but it sneaks in there sometimes. Typically in the conclusion (e.g., if you do X, Y, and Z, you will have great success....)

I search for ", and". I am old school and a big fan of the Oxford comma, so it's taken some discipline to lose this.

Anything that I think should be hyphenated, I double check the style guide, especially if it is a key word.

I re-read the entire article for filler and redundancies, and then for any past tense that may slip in. That's 2 separate readings for 2 separate purposes.

That was super helpful, Crayonshaver. I use "can" a ton, too, if I don't consciously check myself.

And glitter, I'm considering it, but I won't have time to for a week or two yet. I'm rooting for others, though. (Good luck, Blaize!)

I failed the writer.com test. Oh, well. i will try again later. It does make you feel you aren't a good enough writer.

Sorry roddma. Good luck. I've been hearing you can only take once the Top Tier qual offered on Turk, so I'm curious to know how the write.com one works, as far as retakes and what it qualifies you for. Did you take it because you can also get Top Tier that way?

So I've got nine articles done so far this week. I plan to write at least one more tonight, then spread out the remaining articles over the next three days.

I'm still waiting on some article approvals from the 19th. Anyone else seeing a lag? It's not surprising, I'm just curious to see when y'all's stuff got approved.

Yes, it is another way to qualify. No clue about Write.com. It says nothing about retakes. I haven't tried getting qualified through mturk. Maybe I need to brush up on AP style.

I still have one pending from the 18th. Seems to be taking them a bit to get through them. Good luck on the bonus. I am just starting out, so trying to get one in every other day until I am convinced they are okay. So far, so good, but now have like 3 pending.
