    Hi guys,

I've recently returned to mturk after a year or so of basically inactivity. A couple years ago, I regularly wrote for Content Galore, which was great. I was able to make great money in my spare time until they went belly up, started rejecting HITs out of hand, and effectively disappeared. This plummeted my approval % from a little above 95 to now around 92, disqualifying me from a lot of HITs and souring mturk for me for a while.

Now that I've returned, it seems that the only thing comparable to Content Galore is CrowdSource. It seems like they have great HITs and are good and quick about payment, but I can't seem to get the qualification and don't understand. Does anyone know how their qualification process works? There doesn't seem to be a test and requesting qualification hasn't gotten me anywhere. Is there a trick to being qualified? I've looked around the forum for a little bit for an answer, but most people just say it has to do with being in the US, and I'm definitely a resident.

    Any tips/tricks/clues/suggestions? Thanks!

I'm guessing from what you posted you're talking about the qualifications like Writer I and Writer II that Crowdsource has. Those do come from a test HIT, but it's not always available. They post them every few months in batches when they are looking for new/additional writers.

I can't get qualifications for Writer or Editor. I would love to work on those hits, but I guess they have enough people at present. I will wait until they start approving me for those hits.

knock off a few dozen crowdsource basic hits, then email about the qual your going for. i've gotten 3 or 4 that way, usually weeks or momnths after i emailed. i've also had them randomly pull or change levels of quals that i've never used, so as best i can tell it's a crapshoot on our end and a cluster**** on theirs. <shrug> i don't do them anymore.

Email them & tell them the same thing you said in this thread (and like the person said above, knock out a good # of their HITs)

Rather than contacting them through MTurk, they work on their own interface.
    Workforce@Crowdsource.com

The test you take to be qualified to write for them is at Write.com
It gives you all the info about Crowdsource & their writing that you need.

Have you taken their test at write.com?

I have contacted them a couple times about the writing exam, it is not currently open. You need to register to be notified when they open the testing again. They were supposed to have a pass of testing in April, but they either filled up fast, or did not have it open as indicated, because I'm still waiting for notification.

As a professional editor and publishing consultant, I did discuss with them the possibility of bypassing the testing if you can provide outside qualifications, but was told that you still have to take the test.

I registered as well to be notified when the test would be available again, but never received an email. I assumed there was some sort of delay and just sort of forgot about it until some time last week. I sent an email asking if I missed out on the wave of those contacted to take the test, and was sent an email with a direct link to the test. I submitted the writing sample based on the prompts they gave you to choose from and should hear back from them in two to three business days.

What I'm confused about the most is what you have to do after you pass the writing assessment to get the actual writing qualifications. There are the Writer I & II qualifications and then there's the Writing qualification with different values/levels (level 1 and up).

Apparently passing the writing test doesn't mean you get these qualifications. Or maybe it does. It's really confusing.

Update: I passed the assessment test as of this morning, but I didn't receive any qualifications. I sent an email, and a few minutes later I was given the Answer Writer qualification which allows me to do the 200-word question answering HITs for $5.00 and the 100-word ones for $2.50.

From my short experience, I suspect that the process is tedious for those that don't follow up with it. I hate being a nuisance, but you really can't sit and wait and hope for the best with these things.

I have access to Answer Writer. I received the Writer I and II qualifications as well. Did you receive those too?

Not sure how to apply for the other writing qualifications they have, such as Law Writer, Kitchenware Writer, Expert Level, etc.

Yes. I had to email them because I had the qualifications on WorkStation, but not on MTurk, so they had to give them to me on MTurk. But I have all three qualifications now.

As far as the Kitchenware Writer Qualification goes, CrowdSource has a forum and an administrator posted a link to the test for it a few days ago. They didn't say how long it would be up or give a time frame of when it would be graded and when we'd know if we passed or not. I took it the same day it was posted, though.

I'm not sure if I can post a link to the CrowdSource forum here, but you should definitely join it if you haven't already, especially since you're a writer. Any new information regarding CS HITs gets posted there first, and sometimes they tell you beforehand when a new wave of HITs are gonna be posted and how much work is to be expected and how long said new work is available.

With the expert level, I'm not sure it's something you can test for.
