I have a thread to back you up ---> Link

I am also afraid that this might lead us to Turkernation II.

I don't complain openly about it on the thread and post about it because the people who do that are hypocrites and get the thread even MORE off topic. I just get annoyed when there's like a whole page of just Convo about random stuff with no HITs is what I'm saying. I do enjoy a couple of comments you guys post and get a chuckle. i should have been more clear

but that's my point. if there are hits, they'll be posted. it doesn't matter if the thread is full of conversation or nothing but hits. you can't make hits magically appear when there are none. so we fill in the time with conversation. unfortunately, sometimes a lack of new hits to post lasts a page or two or even three...

EDIT: and i'm not trying to start an argument or anything, people will have their own opinions about this and they're not wrong either way, i'm just saying, no matter how off topic the thread gets, if there's a hit to be posted, it won't be lost or overlooked. if anything, maybe i should start whining about how people posting hits derails pretty good conversation sometimes lol

So I would rather refresh the page looking at no new replys rather than sift through 2 or three pages of conversation. Just makes a waste of my time. This is besides the point so I suggest we give this a rest but I do appreciate your opinion. No hard feelings Sasquatch. Your basically a Turkforum god ;)

I become a lurker like 10,000 times a day just for the fact that I keep having to log on. Honestly speaking, I would be so much more into posting hits if I could just stay logged on for..I don't know...maybe a half hour at a time!

Agreed, it gets annoying signing in so much. Just a pain.

If you were going to do something like this, you might as well make the whole forum members only. There are plenty of reasonable message boards of all stripes which do that, and all you have to do to enter is get a free and simple account. Just like this one. I don't see any reason to do that, but it makes as much or more sense than one single section being private.

i notice that when i go to the main forum page, it doesn't look like i'm signed in because the login boxes are where my username should be, but if i click to go into a thread then i'm signed in... the forum script just might not be configured to show that you're logged in on the homepage...

I don't have to sign in each time. Isn't there a "keep me signed in" box to click on?

yea whatever happens, i'll still be a member too. not starting a war either :D I see there are a lot of people that voted yes, but no one is posting a reason why besides what u said. I just want to understand why some of you feel lurkers are affecting the forum in a negative way... sounds like i'm asking a survey question lol!!!! Lurkers aren't taking away from members.. i don't see how. They're not adding, but idk maybe they're intimidated or feel like other people post links before they can anyway so there's no point in trying.

We should charge people to join. Divide the fee among the members who have posted within the last month. Obviously our shares would fluctuate, but it might be a way to have more participants and an additional source of income behind MTurk. ;)

I like the chitchat in between. I like a casual work environment, not 100% business all the time.

Taking that away reminds me of being in class/work where they won't let you speak and makes you hate your job.

Gotta keep things fun and enjoyable in life.

If things are fun and enjoyable, how do you remember you are at work?

I agree with Sasquatch. That's exactly how I feel. The memes are occasional.

To add on to that: Shit, even at a regular work environment, there's a small amount of casual convo goin' on as long as work is gettin' done. Last time I checked, the thread is not spammed with memes. There's occasional casual talk, but it's never overdone to the point where we forget we're workin'.

    When you get a paycheck.

Most people are adult enough to know how to handle their work with mixing in some fun.

We need to keep an open site for the benefit of requesters who may look in. Hiding threads from lurking Turkers means hiding it from lurking Requesters as well.

It would be nice to see more people become members but I dont think it will make a huge difference.

Having an account on this forum does not guarantee that members will post. Lurkers will most likely continue to lurk.

I've been on this forum quite a while now and its great to see that more individuals are deciding to post here. Hopefully this trend continues because this is a great forum. But pressuring people to become members might scare of them away instead of encouraging them to join.
