What terms and abbreviations should be included in our Resources mTurk Glossary?

    I am working in collaboration with RWStein, and hopefully some of you guys, on a glossary/abbreviation guide for new turkers and forum members. When completed, the guide will be posted in the Resources Forum.

    We have some abbreviations and terms ready, but need your feedback and advice... What terms should we add to the glossary?

    I will update the list as I get suggestions, and will provide credit in the final post.

    Here is the list we have so far:
    TO – Turkopticon. A system to review requesters.
    CS – CrowdSource. A requester on Mechanical Turk.
    CF – CrowdFlower. A requester on Mechanical Turk.
    AMT/mTurk – These are shorthand ways of referring to Amazon Mechanical Turk.

    As you can see, it is definitely a short list so far, but we hope to get more. This is the place to suggest abbreviations and terms that I missed, as well as to propose new abbreviations. For example, TurkAlert could become TA.

    Thank you all!

    Transcribing company abbreviations. I suggest...
    CW=CastingWords
    SI=SpeechInk

    I'm a little iffier about these or if they're even needed...
    RW=Redwood
    CT=Claritrans

    On a side note, I've always thought Turkey sounds a lot cooler than Turker.

    Sounds good. I think I am going to make a Requester section. I will put these in here.
    Thanks! :)

    Good point. It makes things a little less boring :D

  6. CF would be very confusing. There's actually another requester in MTurk by that name.

    I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me, that was the abbreviation I have been using. Hmm... CrowdFlower could be referred to as CRF.

    Thanks for pointing that out to me.

    Good point, and I'm pretty sure they did that on purpose, too. Huh, I'm not sure how to make an abbreviation for that that would not be confusing!

    BTW, Cowfin, thanks to you and RWS for doing this!

    Both good, Thanks. I am planning on writing the majority either tomorrow or friday. Should I go into more detail with the requester definitions, maybe the Requester ID or something?

    I would say that the ID is not something you need to include immediately, just because the impression I get is that many people don't know how to find that anyway and so don't have much use for it.

  15. I think we should create a FAQ thread as well. This forum really needs a FAQ page for those noobs asking the same questions over and over again.

    How funny that those "noobs" as one calls them are many veterans of turking?!?!? I see more senior members on here asking the same questions over and over to the new/junior members... but a FAQ thread would be good.

    I agree that Requester ID doesn't have to be an immediate issue. But it would be helpful to include at some point since it's critical to the use of Turk Alert. To have it included in a handy reference would be nice.

    Its not questions like that that he is talking about. He is referring to simpler questions, such as "How do I cash out?" and "I did a HIT, but it does not show up in my earnings."
    Basic mTurk questions, as well as some about scripts and such.

    Just to let you know, "noob" is shorthand for newbie. So calling someone a noob is just saying they do not have much experience. Your rank on the forum has nothing to do with whether or not peple will consider you a noob. It is NOT a derogatory term on here.
