I have a "real job" and make pretty good money, but I still always seem to make my way back to Mturk.

I enjoy turkin as I watch tv.

I meant that in a bit of a kidding manner, but I see how that in no way comes across upon re-read. Just assume everything you ever see from me is said with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Maybe I should make better utilization of smilies...but I hate them so.

    My apologies.

I actually dont like the work, I force myself to do the work thats difficult and pays a lot because I can't pass up on money. What I like is when a requestor posts a really easy batch that is large and I spend an hour on it and earn 35 bucks for work that did not take more than a 2nd grade reading level to complete.

Feels like I picked up free money on the street....i feel the majority of you get that feeling.

Q39.5. Thank you very much for taking the survey. Unfortunately, we cannot reimburse you because you did not read the instructions on the previous section correctly. The answer to the first question should have been "No Answer" and the answer to the second question should have included at least one character. Please feel free to abandon the HIT.

Myself, I quit my job I was at for 6 years back in June, took a few months off and then started making some money online in September and then found turking and between my other online sources of income and turking i'm making more money then I was at my old job and I get to work from home when I want. Plus I don't have to wake up at 3AM 6 days a week like I did at my old job.

Also too, i'm in my mid-20s and I don't have that many responsibilities.

since i got out of my 10 day trial period i've been consistently hitting 50+ on weekdays - the average in my sig includes really low earnings those first 10 days and very hit-or-miss weekends, far more often miss than hit - and also is only what i've been paid, not the actual amount i earned each day as i always have a bunch pending. yes, i spend around 10-12 solid hours working once you cut out naps, food, errands, forum posting, and random distractions, but that's still a decent amount over $2-$3/hour, and i started this well before rubin began dropping these batches. i was also late to the medcrowd bandwagon, and still prefer other things to most of their different hits.

there is no single requester or small number of requesters i depend on for anything, surveys and random tasks that pop up every day still make up a good portion of what i earn, and i think it's partly due to taking on work from a variety of requesters and types of hits that i earn what i do, which is more than some and less than others. hell, if i had a smartphone, did any type of phone call, webcam, or speech recording hits, my average would probably be up by another dollar or two, i just choose not to, and many people make similar choices based on their preferences.

my only point is that $2-3/hr is setting your expectations really low. if you can only turk for one or two hours each day, especially at less opportune times, then you're probably right. but if you keep at it and have the ability to spend at least a few hours turking to give yourself a better chance of catching whatever might fall into your lap in addition to whatever favorite hits or requesters you might seek out, i think you can make at least around $5/hour once you've got some experience under your belt and passed some milestones like 500 or 1000 hits. if i heard before starting this that the best i could do was $2-3/hour, i'd probably be bundling up and hoofing it a mile or two to some minimum wage job.

yes, it's important to have some realistic expectations given the time you can put in and the kinds of tasks you're willing and able to do successfully, but i don't think it's fair to say that it's only because of certain requesters that you'll be able to do well. yes, the days certain hits are available we'll do much better than on days when they're not, but this doesn't mean on those other days, or in some future scenario where these requesters drop off the face of the earth and none have stepped up to replace them, that you'll be making pennies.

tl;dr, try to be encouraging to newbs, i think we're all here because we saw potential, rather than limits, and if we were that dissatisfied we'd likely have found something better and more profitable to do with our time...

The good thing about writing, is that no one else wants to do it either. That's why it pays more than the other HITs and provides steady work. It's quick once you get the hang of it. I still don't like doing writing either though.

Mturk is one of a handful of online jobs that is legit. The pay isn't great, but you can rely on it.

Did anyone else not get a code? The survey asked for my Turk ID, but the submission form asked for a completion code...

Not directed towards anyone or anything like that but I use this thread mostly to find and share HITs and a little to ask questions some well timed jokes make me LOL too.

But when people are always negative or off topic I use the ignore feature here to screen them out, I find it's helpful to keep a positive mind set while being productive using this tread as a tool to earn more money turking.

I could not agree with you less, once you know what your doing its not hard to earn 100 per day. Ive been turking 3 yeras or so and have never worked on medcrowd hits and until last week have never touched rubin hits. You better check yo self before you reck yo self.
