Till today all my approved hits said pending payment. I assumed it was because I have not finished my first ten days yet. Than today a few of those approved hits now say paid. I still have half a day till my ten days are done. I had thought that once my ten days were up all approved pending payments would be paid than and not before. What is going on?

Also does a requester put up the money for the hits they post first and then is released when to a worker as soon as the hit is approved or do you have to wait for the requester to pay after approval?

You just got approved a few hours sooner. Could be anything, maybe time zone? Amazon is Pacific time. Which is 3-4 hours difference then other parts of the country. Also only a few says paid, because they will slowly but surely all start saying paid. It starts by doing a little at a time. It will be like this your entire way through Mturk. You do a large batch, and they start trickling in slowly saying paid.

I believe the requester pays up front, and once you are approved the actual money transfer to you is controlled by Amazon.

Yes, the requester prepays the HITs into an account, and approves the HIT. From there, the transfer of money is in Amazon's hands.
