I was wondering what everyone's opinion is of their audio transcription hits (0.13c ones)

I have been getting what I consider to be unfair rejections.

i.e. one today was a Scottish (Glaswegian) accent on a very poor quality recording and one word I couldn't pick up and left with a ?

The thing is, I MYSELF AM SCOTTISH so if I couldn't understand him I doubt anyone else could either!

There is no comment box to note why you made a certain decision. i.e This man also said: "Full stop, new sentence." which is typical in British legal firms. It is NEVER transcribed (and they'd be cross if they got it back in the text). So I left it out.

I am not going to do any more, they have single handedly brought my approval status down from 98.8 yesterday to 97.7 today. I am fizzing mad!

And they never respond to my requests to manually check the audio and transcription and not rely on what a Turker has disapproved.

I am 'mostly' positive on them. I have done quite a few of their HITs and I have gotten a couple rejections but that happens. I am American but I usually have no problem knowing what they are saying. There have been a couple that were quite iffy so I do understand the rejections and it's probably my fault because I don't just return the HIT when I come across an ick one. I probably should but when I've already done 4 or 5 clips and I'm on the last one I don't want to just return it.

All in all I like them.. because I love doing transcription.. but I have a hard time remembering style guides for the 'big' transcription guys. So Imfuna lets me get my transcription fix without having to worry about following a style guide.

I love transcription too but I don't like the way these ones are judged by other turkers who have no way of knowing why you transcribed it a certain way. I am doing quite well with CastingWords and as an editor/writer I have no trouble switching "style guides". The differences are usually minimal anyway. Might try some other transc. jobs today.

I actually ended up blocking them from my list last week. I had a couple questionable rejections prior but let it go thinking maybe there was something. Then they had one last week that was all blanks, I marked it as so and quickly watched the rejection come in, I emailed them for clarification and received no response. Speech ink was posting the same inspection people for a while so I'm just waiting for those to come back.

Same thing here only 4 rejections in over 400 hits completed and 3 of them by you guessed it the topic.

I've done between 30 and 40 HITs for Imfuna and haven't received any rejections yet. I do have to go back and listen over and over again to certain words, and there is one man who will start out mostly understandable, and at the end of the snippet, he lumps all of his words into one breath and mumbles. Arg! But, I do like doing them, and if at any point I just CANNOT understand a word, I type in [xx] to signify that I have no clue what the person just said.

I just can't do transcription, wish I could because Imfuna puts up some of the shorter ones I've seen, but I can't even do that fast enough to be worthwhile. I did give it a try today, but for every hit i attempted the speaker had a british accent, and I KNOW I wouldn't be able to understand more than a few words without going back to double check

Oh I love the accents. -swoons- LOL I think that's one of the main reasons I like them so much.

I had exactly the same one, marked all as blanks and got rejected within minutes. So unfair. I am now doing penny HITs to try and get my approval back over 98. Going to lock them, too. Just not worth it.

Right, now I am really REALLY hacked off.

I did ONE today, just thinking I would see how it goes.

We ALL AGREE these are British English speakers, no?

I use BRITISH ENGLISH spelling of "colour"

Rejected for other people's IGNORANCE and INABILITY TO READ the instructions is not on.

Sadly, the blocking script doesn't work on Chrome so I can't put them on ignore. Please if you see me going ANYWHERE near Imfuna again kick my gullible backside away from there!

I never use British spelling when I do these, I always just spell the words the way I would normally spell thim as an American.

As an aside, I honestly don't think it's other Turkers that determine whether our HITs are rejected because I did quite a few yesterday and they were approved literally in moments. They had no 'Listen to this' blah blah HITs up so I don't know how another Turker could have approved the ones I had just done.

I dunno I don't really like the idea of other Turkers approving or rejecting especially considering some of the ones I've listened to where I hear the clip, read the transcription they gave and think 'How the F did they get combover out of the word coving and who the heck has combover ceilings'

Ah well, anyways, I'm sorry you had a hard time with them :-(

I think other Turkers snap them up before you see them. Only twice have I been unable to approve/reject because it was my own transcription.

I've been naughty today. I've taken as many "approve" jobs as I can and approved them all even if they were wrong.

For example, two said it had been marked as blank tape but there was audio there for me. I reckon their system is faulty. I approved them anyway. Nice to get my own back a little :) That's what they get for never responding.

I have used British spelling if its an UK transcript. US when its American. I am good at switching back and forth with no problem. Typically it is just replacing an Z with an S or adding a U in some words. :)

That's what I do, too. And often, where there is a double letter, one is removed... like traveling.

Also, in that blog job with lots HITS last week, you had to specify if US or UK English... I searched the pages for "z" to find out :D

Haha you are so naughty! I love it LOL

Maybe that's how they get approved so fast. If that is the case then the few rejections I've gotten actually irk me a bit more.. because there is only one that I KNEW may get rejected, the others I was 99% confident about. I won't bother sending a mail though cuz it was days ago and I doubt they'd ever respond anyways.

No, they have never responded to me. I got a reject for the approval that I did wrong :) Kind of worth it. They're system isn't working and we get penalised? No, thanks!

I've only worked on those once before and I was lucky because it was a lot of the same audio I'd worked on the night before, with SpeechInk's home inspection audio. If it makes you feel any better, SpechInk requires the use of British spelling. I don't see the point in imfuma not accepting the same.

I agree! I may avoid these as well. I wish i could go back to historical data in 2006/2007 to see who rejected all my hits (200+) back then because they didnt want to pay and crashed my approval rating to 85% - I am now back up to 92% after working 50-100 a day for the past month. - I will be happy when I get to 95% again - but that is 1900 more tasks. Wish me luck!!

That is a lot of grinding. May I ask how you work out that it's 1900 more tasks, please?
