Not sure, my account was approved right away.

Maybe they're putting on a temporary "hiring freeze." Can't say that I'd be upset about that... more work for me.

LOL.... agree - More workers = More competition.
May be they are halting the registration temporarily.

Or if that isn't even the issue and there's something else going on we don't know about. Like if they've had a previous account suspended.

Just saying - hard to say what the issue is without knowing more.

Agree with Whimsy. I think you're all getting your panties in a big, unnecessary twist here.

For all we know, the friend submitted invalid information, or cannot be verified, or maybe just missed a follow-up email. Or tried to sign up before, scammed the site, and got banned.

Maybe OP could provide us a little more information on the individual so we could help more. :)

I'm having the same exact problem. I've registered recently but it's been a few days and my account is supposedly still being reviewed. Just saw on Y!A that a few other people are in the same boat and aren't getting their registrations approved. The whole freezing registrations seems to be the case.

Could it be because I used my existing Amazon account? My email and other info is definitely correct since I get emails from Amazon and have made purchases. Should I have made a new account to register? I've never used mturk because I've only recently heard about it and I'm registering from within the United States. I'm getting anxious and I think I might make a fresh account.

I heard there is a hold on new accounts. I can't find any info on it, though.

My registration request has also been at the "being reviewed" stage for several days. I registered with the same account I use for Amazon Prime purchases and Amazon Associates, and after a couple of days of waiting I tried again with a new account, and both registrations are stuck at "being reviewed". I've no experience with mturk before so there is no negative history to cause the delay, I assume it's a hold on all new registrations for reasons known only to Amazon.

If they both get approved you're going to want to ask them to ditch one of them. You can't have two mturk accounts without risking suspension.

Yep same here this is dumb.

You'd think trying to make 2-4 dollars an hour wouldn't cause such a hassle at the fucking login screen.

To those of you that have just waited a few days some people ( In America ) have been waiting for weeks so it seems this issue has been going on for a while.

I've looked for something online to explain this, but there isn't anything. Of course, when I searched "mturk hiring freeze" this thread was at the top of the page. Great.

yea I've sent a couple of emails to Amazon.

But alas they don't really care about us.

Its the requesters that are important.

Perhaps someone who is a requester and has a current active account could send them an email?

    I bet you'd get a reply.
