Do you like to toil for hours on end to be paid peanuts at the end? Then mturk is the place for you. But if not, come join Odesk. With the right techniques, you can make at least Rs50000 in a month. I'm telling you this truth because I pity that Indians have to toil so hard for nothing for misers on mturk who are not even paying the minimum wage for Indians forget Americans.

It's my sincereest advice to all Indians, stop working so hard for nothing, join Odesk like many other Indians already have.

It's not only writing there. There are a lot of jobs that don't require a high level of english, like data entry or transcription. My favorite job is transcription and with the right approach you can make a lot of money there. My hourly rate on Odesk is $3/hour and so I make like $30 by working for 10 hours and sometimes I work for 15 hours. Earning $30 a day gives you Rs50000 in a month guaranteed. Then why waste time and efforts in mturk.

Seems to be getting harder and harder for non-US workers in general to earn any money on MTurk, not just Indians.

I noticed that CrowdFlower made their 0.04 Sentiment HITs US only in the past week which left me quite gutted :S

Might give Odesk the once over.

There are so many easy tasks on Odesk which do not require any special skills. Already the biggest outsourcing competition to India, the filipinos are just making a rip off of Odesk.

Why I hate those filipinos, while I charge $3 per hour, some filipinos go as low as $1.5.

I have posted for some basic research and "virtual assistant" work on odesk in the past. I have had bids from $40 an Hour (US/UK based) to .78 cents an hour from Bangledesh and The Phillipinees.

Of course one may not always go with the low bid, Odesk allows the requestor see screen shots of the work being done. Even an iPhone app. Only down side is you can't refuse to pay someone.
You can hire them, give them X hours, and the screen shots show them in chat, watching video, forums, etc.. but not work.

And FYI I don't always pick the lowest bid. Ratings matter on there, but I have been known to give a newbie a chance with a few hours.

Odesk is near impossible to get work if your in the US unless your willing to work for $1-$2 an hour.

But there are real full-time jobs programming, working with a server farm, website design, SEO work,
pretty much any job that can be done virtually is there... But you have a world-wide applicant pool.

Scott, you must have given them (those lousy workers) really bad feedback afterwards and that must have ended their Odesk career forever. I never take chances by fooling around like these. Whenever the tracker is active, I always type hours on end so that the client is happy with me and gives me an excellent feedback, which is really important to get the next client. I just love some american clients, since they are with me for the past 6 months and don't want to leave, as much as I don't want to leave them.

A lower end American transcription company charges $60 to transcribe a moderately easy audio in US, while I do the same and sometimes quite difficult audios for $30 on Odesk. So why wouldn't the clients come back to Odesk to get their transcription work done and also save $30 and more if there is more than an hour of audio.

Why would you like to work for $3 an hour. $3 an hour is good and sometimes too good for indians but I don't think any american would like to work at this payrate.

I would like to work for minimum wage, which here is 8 dollars per hour.
From what I've looked into that is consistently possible at oDesk since their work is long term, which I really like. However, getting the job seems to be the problem. I might try it out and start applying...

Yes and never quote more than market rate at Odesk. See other contractors profiles and you will know what is the market rate for your country.

I never quoted more than $3 which is the market rate for Asians on Odesk and I made a very strong profile, cover letter etc. took a lot of test and now I'm currently working with three clients at the same time, making more money than I would ever at a full time job in a formal office.

Why do you have that Crowdsource banner in your post. Are you a fan of crowdsource?

Considering the fact that this is an mturk forum... hence the name. I think you are posting in the wrong forum and don't think the admin would appreciate you telling people to leave mturk to work for another company. Just saying.

I think it's more important to help people with some advice which will do them some good and perhaps help them earn more than to care about whether I'm posting in the right forum or not.

There is already another thread like this so I don't think the admin will mind.
I don't think Andy has such a protective attachment to mturk that this thread will be deemed inappropriate.

You help some workers in India who are currently not getting fair work from amazon? Great. You don't convince some others? That's expected. In other words: I think you're completely fine in this action.

However, looking into reviews of oDesk, I see that it is peanuts for US workers due to all the competition, and I could make better money here on mturk while retaining my freedom.
