I was just duped by Requester Raymond Harris, who has a HIT for $3.00 on Mturk. These are the instructions on the HIT page:

I accepted the HIT and followed the instructions precisely...

I downloaded and installed the "game" which ended up being bundled with 4 different tool bars and browser extensions, and 3 viruses that were detected by my antivirus program. When trying to run the game on several different occasions, the only thing that would happen is a blank screen would come up. I reported it in the field below the instructions and submitted it.

No more than 5 minutes later my hit was rejected. The reason in the feedback column said "Please do not submit without checking your email for confirmation" However, there was absolutely nothing said in the instructions about checking email for confirmation before submitting, nothing like that at all. So I tried to inquire with him about this, and there was no response, and he blocked me from sending him any more messages.

So basically I just got duped into downloading a bunch of viruses and unwanted software from this sleazeball, without my due compensation. I'm not that upset over getting screwed out of three dollars, as much as I am upset that this guy's scam tactics hurt my HIT approval rate (I have only submitted 5 or so hits so far) :(

Just wondering if there is any way I can report him to Amazon or Mturk. Also thought it'd be nice to give you other workers out there a heads up on this scammer.

    Thanks for your time guys
    Jason

You can report this HIT to Amazon for violating the Terms of Service. Not that it will do much good and I don't think AMT is staffed on the weekends.

Sorry about your bad experience, unfortunately there are too many scammers on both sides. Besides reporting the HIT, you could also leave a review on Turkopticon.

It is a best practice to avoid any HITs that violate the Terms of Service, for this reason (although this is an extreme case), or just being rejected. blocked and/or identity theft.

Among other things, avoid any HITs that ask for personal information, buying votes or likes, downloading anything at all, writing fake reviews or payment arrangements outside of MTurk. These all violate TOS.

    Good luck!

NEVER download anything. Sorry you had to learn the hard way. If you follow the Can't Find Good HITs thread on this forum you will definitely make some money. Good luck!
