Hi everyone! I'm new to mTurk. On average, how long do they take to aprpove your hits. I did a bunch last night.

Why isn't anyone answering me? :(

It varies from a minute to a month, depending on the Requester. But if the Requester doesn't verify (approve/reject) a HIT/HITs within a month (correct me if I'm wrong here), it's/they're auto-approved.

Most requester have a time frame that they usually stick to. What requester are you waiting on?

Well if they take a month - how do I know if they are legit. ARe most of the Requesters Legit?

    I'm waiting on these:

    Buzz.com
    Jason Gurwin
    User453
    Dolores Labs

    Anyone get paid from them?

Dolores Labs pays after exactly 24 hours, if I remember correctly, I've heard buzz.com takes a week or more to approve, and the other two requesters are new, so who knows whether they'll pay or not.
If you're looking for something that will pay the same day and you happen to be up at 7:20 eastern time, Channel Intelligence posts Choose the Best category hits that pay 2 cents every morning except Saturday. They get approved once the whole batch is done, which is usually around noon. I think you have to take a test before doing them, it must have been easy since I passed it.

Great Jamie - Thanks so much! I will check out Channel Intelligence. I'm still learning how to pick the hits that are quick. Dolores hits are fun, but for the work and time, the pay is kind of low.

Yeah I know, I only the Dolores hits if I desperately need money, because they never reject.

I'm a frequent requester on Mturk. The default setting of HITs is to 3 days, so if people don't adjust it, that's probably what you can expect for a turnaround. I've tried bumping that up to as low as 8 hours for some HITs, but found that that was too tight if the HIT ran overnight. Really, the problem comes down to the quality of work some people submit.

For example, Jamie's comment that he'll do work on certain hits "because they never reject" is scary to me as a requester. I'm not suggesting that Jamie's submitting poor quality work, but I have seen some really egregious examples of people submitting dozens and dozens of HITs without bothering to fill in any of the information on the HIT. If I could count on more consistent work, I could auto-approve approve the HITs and probably pay a bit more, since I'd spend less time dealing with junk submissions.

    BTW, Dolores Labs is crowdflower.com.

Hi Ed. I've done work for you quite a bit in the past. I'm sorry if it sounded as if I was one of the people that tries to game the system. Anyone that knows Dolores Labs' hits knows that they have a strict, if slightly less than perfect, quality control system in place. If a person were to try and cheat on these hits they might get to submit maybe one hit before QC said "Sorry you're not good enough, goodbye."
Now, I'm not saying that all requesters should accept all work, regardless of quality. In fact, I think rejecting work that you find doesn't meet your standards is good for the site as a whole. I just wish if a requester felt it was necessary to reject a submission, he could at least give some feedback as to why it had to be done.
Just to further clarify, when I said "I only the Dolores hits if I desperately need money, because they never reject." I meant I know I can trust them to pay me.
What I would suggest for you, is that you put out a big batch of hits with very clear instructions and a note at the bottom that says, "I will be inviting the workers who do well on these hits to do more hits at a higher pay rate." Then weed out all the bad seeds and people that just don't give it their all. Set up a qualification that you can grant to workers that have met your standard and send them an email, letting them know that you would like them to continue working for you.
Sorry in advance if I have overstepped my bounds in offering you advice.

Hi Ed! Didn't expect to see you here :) Always love working for you.

You can find out how long it takes until a Hit auto approves by opening a Hit, then right-clicking on the blue header (where the title, requester name, qualification etc are listed) and choose "Page Source". Search within the page source document for "app". You will find an entry that states the time in which this Hit will autoapprove in seconds. You have to figure out the minutes, hours, days yourself though.

I hope I decribed this clear enough?

I don't think we're supposed to take this at face value, nor the following in her (BTW, I knew that, thanks to her username, before she upped her pic/avatar) another post:

She just means it in general. Or am I wrong, Jamie, and you meant exactly what you said?

You're correct Justfight, apparently it was a poor choice of words, but what I was trying to say is when I need money I can at least trust they will pay me for the work I have slaved over for them-often at a rate of less than $1 per hour. Unlike some requesters who will take the your work and reject it for no good reason, or those lovely people who use majority rules. I always get screwed over by the people who do majority rules, because apparently the majority doesn't pay attention to detail and/or are using bots.

Apparently, it wasn't. The fact that I was able to get it is enough to prove that!!! :p

Apparently, my choice of words was rather poor here. I guess that "to take that literally" would have been more apt there than "to take this at face value".

All in all, it's only human to make mistakes & some of us are more human than others :)

Those kind of HITs arouse the deeply suppressed generosity in me & make me leave them for the newbies & the needful ones.

Jamie, I LOVE the feedback. Much appreciated. Understood on the Dolores clarification.

Personally, I often pay for HITs that are poorly done - especially if they're on new types of tasks - as I see cases where I could have been more clear with the instructions. I read all of the comments that come through with HIT submissions, and have learned a lot from that over time.

That's great you sound like a good requester. I'll look out for your hits in the future. That does stink that you find you have to approve poorly done work.

Hits done for User453 from 10th to 13th October are approved but are still pending for payment.

What is final deadline of getting paid.
