Morning! There are quite a few still out there, so have at it. Maybe I shouldn't upload HITs so late in the day...that would also cut down on having to reply to email late at night.

Since there are still name hits out there, I'm also going to work on finishing them up. These give me the greatest heartburn in terms of accuracy, though. Too often there will be a seemingly common name without a spelling check by the rep or whomever. Jeff vs. Geoff. Karen vs. Caryn. With the focus on accuracy, I still want to include unsure of spelling. Am I overthinking this?

kris are you asking us or frank? :) I would say yes you are.. i think the accuracy is more for the ones that are actually spelled out and people get them wrong.. there is no way to be 100% accurate in name spelling.. i just go with the common spelling unless it is stated otherwise :)

I guess I'm asking anyone who would answer. The reason I'm asking is that I know that Franklin has mentioned that these are used to match up to leasing and billing records, among other things, where 100% accuracy is required. Karen Baker vs Caryn Bakker could make a critical difference. Or I could be completely overthinking everything - wouldn't be the first time. I guess I'll go with common spelling at this point.

Yes, you're overthinking it a bit. We realize names are tricky and difficult to spell, and as far as billing goes, they are the most difficult to bill even with an exact match. Unless we have a very unique name, how do we prove that our lead John Smith is the same John Smith on the rent roll? Tough to do.

Thanks, Franklin. In a previous life I've had to exactly match rent rolls for very large complexes and groups of properties, so that's where my overthinking comes from. Time for me to take a deep breath and get over it.

That's great to hear, so you somewhat understand exactly what we are doing. And some other workers do/did transcription in their professional lives, which really helps as well.

I am training someone to help me out with this project, and we have had some great laughs. I have to ask -- how do you misspell Brenda?! And even when the person spells it! I have known many Brendas, but none spelled her name Brenza, Brenva, or Brenba.

Anyway, my colleague was on the team that was doing transcription for us internally until we decided to outsource it to you guys, so she understands how everything works from both perspectives. Anyway, some of the controls had to be thrown out because the majority of you answered them wrong. We're still going through the rest, and we are being very lenient again...especially if we have history with the worker. Just be glad we haven't automated this whole process yet, otherwise there would have been 250+ email rejections.

This is why I love people that use the phoetic alphabet but barely anyone does. It would be so easy if they said 'B as in Brenda, V as in Victor, etc' because honestly some letters are hard to distinguish between unless they're spoken very clearly.

Too bad not everyone speaks that way...oh well. We haven't even looked at names yet -- there are still +/- 200 that haven't been completed.

I don't envy you going through the names. I'm sure that'll be an interesting experience, to say the least.

Hearing there were so many email rejections [or would have been] has me a bit intimidated. I've been trickling through the names ones this morning but I think I'll stop for now, until I find out how I did on the ones yesterday. The last thing I need is a block on my account and I don't want to be giving him craptastic work either soo...

Thanks for explaining this. There was more than one occasion where I chose to return a hit after transcribing clips 1-3 because I couldn't understand clip 4 or 5, but I thought another worker may be able to understand the caller’s accent. This was slightly annoying, however, I now understand why the clips have to be grouped together for quality control purposes.

I added a note for every one of those I encountered :)

I used to work on the other end of this - dealing with the address data that came out of call centers (I eventually wised up and made my employer stump up for a real-time address verification system, thank [deity of your choice]). But the two that I specifically remember were Falls Church, VA == "False Church, VA" and the absolutely most epic one EVER Canyon Cuntry, CA
