Maybe it's just me but the past few days I've been following the threads for shits and giggles. Many of the hits posted there are well below even 2.00 an hour. It seems 95% are not great at all and some improvement really needs to be made there.
I'd love it if there were more higher paying HITs posted, of course, but if the higher paying HITs aren't available or posted on MTurk, then they can't post anything like that, right? Can't produce them out of nowhere to post. Or are there a bunch of higher paying HITs that everyone is missing somehow? How could it be improved upon? I personally try to post HITs that pay .10/min or better, but sometimes there aren't many to post.
The ten cent a minute is a good baseline. The thread started out for those type of HITS or ones that paid better. My line is thinking is hey if there's no HITS that qualify why the need to post anything at all then? I'm sure anyone can find the crap HITS and having to wade thru 3 or 6 cent a minute HITS (more often even less, I mean people are posting 1.00 for 30 minute survey HITS lately). Why not just keep the thread "GREAT HITS" only and not even bother posting HITS that are a waste of everyone's time.
He meant that people can only post what MTurk has. "Welcome to MTurk". Could be wrong as to what he meant, but it does make sense.
Nobody knows how long a survey actually takes until they take it. If they wait to post it, it will likely be gone.
I also fail to see how a thread called "Great Hits" would result in anything different than what we already have.
That's the whole point the thread you have now is a "Post what ever hit you just saw" with no discretion at all for the actual quality of it. Why the hell even come to MTurk if you are actually happy with 2.00 an hour? You could make more picking up cans off the curb.
People Turk for different reasons. This is not an income or even a supplemental income for everyone. Sometimes it's just "fun" money. Am I happy with $2/hr? Depends. Am I watching a movie/TV and just lazily completing hits? Sure! And by lazily I don't mean the quality of my work. Am I happy working hard for $2/hr. No. If there is nothing else going on will I work for $2/hr? Sure. I find an audio book to listen to and go to town. Money is money, even when it's slow. I can average anywhere from $2/hr to $17/hr on any given day. This is not a stable job. If you're not willing to work for $2/hr when there is nothing else. Don't. Go find something else to do. Don't disrespect those that are here working and putting in the time. Can I make $2/hr picking up cans? No. It would cost me more in gas collecting them then turning them in. Would I enjoy driving around looking for cans? No. Do I enjoy doing surveys? More than I like picking up cans. Do I like doing the majority of penny hits? Yes. Everyone has different skill sets and goals. It's not always about the money. I've done 10 cent surveys that take 20 minutes because I found them interesting. Sometimes it's about numbers. Especially for the newer folks. The thread is there (my opinion) to post what's available and what people are working on. It helps us find HITs to complete quicker since someone else has found them. It keeps us from having to weed through thousands of HITs to find one to do. As well as post those great money making hits when they come along. I really appreciate everyone that posts and shares what they find. I don't post many hits since most of the time someone else has beat me to it. It's also here to share information about current problems with hits. Rejects, Quality, TO, etc. You're not going to find a forum that posts exactly what you want unless you create it and populate it yourself. The other problem is that everyone works at their own pace or has speed issues. I personally suffered from bandwidth issues until I upgraded my satellite. Those $2/hr penny hits? I can now do $2.50/hr. Whoo Hoo! I'm also a fast reader. A survey that takes me 5 minutes may take someone else 10 to 20 minutes.. Or someone might be faster. Someone might be able to make $2/hr off of some 5 cents hits while someone else can make $5/hr off those same hits. You use the term quality but I think you mean compensation. I have not seen too many poor quality hits posted. And if they are the person posting them usually indicates that they were of poor quality or removes them. What makes a HIT great is subjective. It could be the quality, compensation, quantity, etc.
I must be missing something. Most, if not all, of the HITs posted there have either good TO or no TO yet (because the requester is new). I'm not seeing HITs posted there that have crappy TO. People aren't repeatedly posting Oscar HITs there or anything, either.
I don't understand why some one can complain about receiving a free service from a group of good supportive folk.
Its a free to use forum with people contributing for free. Anyone that tries to help is cool with me whether they hit the mark or not. You can always demand a refund if you're not fully satisfied.
100% agree with you, seems like a waste of a "great hits" thread if it's just any random hit people find with no regard for the quality of the pay. I already tried to fight this battle though and it just didn't make any difference.
