I already made the connection between Masters and people who haven't turked in awhile. Think about almost everything in life. If you haven't been to a casino in awhile what do you get in the mail? Amazing deals and free money to get you back. When you haven't played a video game in a while? Free upgrades or free game time or something to entice you back. It only makes sense Masters is a way for Amazon to bring people back to turking. It's not 100% but I can guarantee you it plays a part in it.
No clue but I've done almost 3.6k of them and it hasn't helped me at all. Though neither has my other 263k hits so who knows.
"That thing I did before getting masters must be the secret key to getting masters" is a strong example of why correlation does not equal causation, because in every batch of new masters, there's someone else who did not do that thing and still got masters.
OH! Did I reply to the sad face hit! Oops, my bad, I didn't even catch that one. It was the $2 "Survey about recreation activities, creativity and a lottery game"
I was immensely confused and then was trying to find a good way to tell you that YOU must be confused haha
That's true in my case. I took 9 months off (didn't turk at all) and returned to get masters 2 months later.
Masters is a way for Amazon to bring workers who have quit back to MTurk. I have been saying this the last 3 rounds of masters only for this theory to be written off. Now once again reading all the people who have quit only to get the email strengthens my theory. If you want masters quit now and you will get it next round.
Not surprising to see masters thinking it's mostly skill and non-masters thinking it's mostly luck. Clearly it's both since masters tend to be good/fast workers that work a variety of hits, but you have some masters that don't understand simple things about turking, and some that got it before even doing 10k hits. And it would be pretty hard to be as good as many nonmasters on this forum before doing 10,000 hits.
I don't know more than anyone else. Glad those of you got it, sorry for those who didn't. Hope you get it eventually. I just don't think there is any chance it's completely random. There has to be a quality check. Yeah, it's a cash grab for amazon but for it to work there has to be some sort of selection process or screening. There aren't many shitty masters. There are also plenty of people who deserve it. But the masters pool has very few poor workers I'm guessing (maybe lazy, but not turning in shit work) and the general pool of non-masters has much more garbage workers that turn in a shit product. It just sucks the people who deserve it are lumped in with them.
