CastingWords Express, up now!

Hee! Sorry, I am not making fun of you. But your question is such a classic newbie one, so I think it's cute.

The answer is that they actually post those, which they consider their Basic transcriptions, quite often. In fact, I thought they had them all of the time, but I don't regularly check, so I could be wrong. However, I just did a quick look-over of what's available for PPT of 80, and there are several right now. The most surefire way for you to find the CW HITs you can accept is probably to try the same search technique that I suggested in my most recent post in this thread. That should pull them up for you!

The reason I have never covered availability of the Basic transcriptions here is because this thread is for CW's Express audio, which is higher-paying. So I figured that qualified it to be part of the Great HITs forum!

Also, there are some helpful threads here on the site about transcribing for CastingWords, so search on their name and see what comes up. And as an extra bonus, I'll also PM you about another good resource.

Well, we're still pretty stuffed with Express. I just listened to some that I figured were new to the list, since the last time I posted, and the only series I really like is the Denver Adams Sugar one. Everything else new is just meh, although none of it would I necessarily warn you off from, either.

Even better: all the Denver Adams Sugar is PPT of 88 or better! There's a bunch of it up, if you search directly for "Denver Adams Sugar" through MTurk.

I always appreciate that this particular interviewer does a good job of making sure that both they and their subject are nicely audible. And of course, most of the language in these interviews is not too technical. Also, if you're one to get curious about particular clients, sounds like this one (whom most of you will know who've been doing Express the last several weeks) is making progress but still has a bunch of this project to go, so we can probably expect more from them for awhile.

There are a few in the series where the sound is a little tinny, but CW has already marked them up with a premium, so you'll see that they pay a little better, also. So just ignore the ones that are noted as premium if you're in no mood for any hassle.

I have been gone for quite a while, working on everything, like that book on transcription for Turkers that I mentioned earlier this month.

I am going to get back to reviewing these audios and possibly others. But I'm going to be moving these specific kinds of reviews to my site. I'll be doing at least one review every weekday, which means I start today.

I was just going to edit my other post, but there's some really good stuff in the Express that's up right now, so I didn't want anyone to miss it that might be interested.

As promised, I'm posting reviews at my site. I'm doing today's in two parts because I already found three good batches that still seem to have several HITs left! Didn't expect that, and didn't want to wait until I went through alllll the audio before posting, since I do think these are good. They're paying a premium over regular Express, too.

As I mentioned previously, I generally keep my posts about these to my blog now. However, I just got some guidance from CW and wanted to offer it in case anyone else is working on this batch.

(To get everyone up to speed, Easy Adams Thomas is an Express batch available right now. Good quality sound, with minimum PPT of 85 to work on any.)

As you'll have noticed if you're working on it, there's an interpreter, an interviewer, and an interviewee who speaks only in a foreign language. Here are quick tips on how it should be handled:

1. You can condense each of the interviewee's speaking intervals simply into [foreign words].
2. Don't worry about indicating how often the translator talks over the interviewee in any given instance of [foreign words]. Just show in what order each one starts, and then do the same the next time those two start up again (since they always talk almost simultaneously).
3. No need to indicate with any kind of tag that the translator is translating. Just speaker-tag her as "Translator:".

I actually think these guidelines make that audio pretty desirable, since for practical purposes there's really only 2 speakers, with only a tiny bit of extra work needed to account for the 3rd person (the one being translated).
