Wish I'd known about messages and them revealing my email address before I started turking. I'd have created a new email just for Mechanical Turk/Amazon. Something that isn't my name. I've been afraid to change it since then. Maybe Amazon will think I've handed off my turking account to someone else and suspend it. Or I've moved to China and can no longer access gmail. Or... dunno. Given the complete lack of transparency when it comes to things like warning emails after blocks and account suspensions, paranoia is a reasonable approach.
I feel exact the same way. I know someone who did change their email and it was fine. I'm still paranoid regardless. As if that isn't bad enough, another problem is requesters knowing our names. When I started, I learned we could change our Mturk name apart from our AP names so I did by removing my last name. That worked well for the longest time until recently when we had to get rid of Amazon Payments over to Mturk, requiring our names to match now they know our full names as well.
