Somehow I doubt it, but that would be awesome.

I suppose there's a possibility that Amazon is actually taking an active approach in handling rouge workers in an attempt to get requesters more confident in the system so that they can pay more and need to submit fewer redundant HITs (or so Amazon can charge more since they have a better workforce).

Has anybody actually emailed Amazon to ask them about this and gotten any sort of real answer? I'm really wondering if these non approved accounts have anything to do with country or know poor worker's IP addresses. Or if they're just doing a hiring freeze so they can improve things like the captchas and other things to drive older, reliable workers insane.

No, I just think its an attempt to stop scam accounts. While our complaining does nada, Amazon tends to cater to requesters, and if enough complain about duplicate/scam/otherwise unethical accounts.. well, I think they might be changing things.

As far as higher paying requesters coming out of this, a girl can only dream..

*Note - opinions expressed here are simply that and I have no factual basis to back this up. Just what I'm assuming and everyone knows I'm usually right so let's just go with it k? :D

I'm ashamed to say I haven't. I've searched the interwebz for any kind of answer but no luck.

Wow! Are you sure we are not related? Who in the hell has an account in his brothers name? I hate it when I hear people say things like... "uh, this is my third account and I am fucked cause they suspended me again" or "oh well it looks like I am just going to have to make another account under a different name". People like this make it that much harder for the rest of us who are trying to do a decent job for an honest pay.

On an OP note... are we even sure this "freezing new account" thing is true? This is the first I have ever heard of it.

I've seen several posts on here from new workers asking why their account is still pending approval from Amazon. Whether it is just the case for everyone, or if it is just for workers that they have reason to be suspicious about, I have no idea.

I'm surprised it's taken Amazon this long to listen to their customers. I'm sure these been complaints for years. Still even if it's not direct at us it is a benefit towards us :)

A few separate people are reporting this on both boards. I guess none of the regulars are too eager to try opening a new account to test it out.

I *almost* feel bad for the quality requesters on AT. I know many of us that come here and share bits of ourselves are truly trying to do good quality work. But I can see how easy it would be for some people to make a million accounts just to f*ck with requesters. Maybe Amazon is trying to make things better for requesters, which in a way, will make things a bit better for those of us that are honest.

I have been hearing lots of people say about the freeze. I wouldn't be surprised if it was true. In fact, that would almost be a reason to have a FORUM PARTY!!! :D

Yeah, personally I'd be completely fine if Amazon just didn't allow new accounts for awhile. The workforce is getting over saturated as it is... I say don't accept new works for a time TBD, and the number of turkers will twindle down with all the crap workers inevitably getting their accounts banned.

What I hope is that they are implementing some sort of background check. I mean, you don't apply to a 9-5 job and start working the same day (usually). They do background checks and reference checks and make sure you are who you say you are. If they integrated a process like this, it would benefit legitimate workers. And it would give workers a much better reason to provide quality work by knowing if they get banned, it will at least be a period of time before a new account is approved to work again -- if they can even create a new account at all.

I'd hold off on the party until we actually know what's going on with this whole thing.

I'm not sure if anybody stuck in this situation is reading this, but just in case: Does the account review step ask for any sort of additional information or is it just something behind the scenes?

I hope all this is just a part of Amazons procedures in clearing out bad and fake workers...and nothing goes bad with functioning of MTurk...I am just too indebted with this methodology of earning :)

I wouldnt doubt the only reason there freezing registration is cause of the massive amount of scam hits that are constantly being put up dating profiles CC offers so on and so forth 5 mins after there reported and taken down more appear.. amazon suspends those accounts and they just turn right around 5 mins later and create a new one..

Anyone rember the thread not to long ago with the requester who came on and said she had 3 accounts suspended cause of people reporting hits yada yada.. 3 ACCOUNTS! It was obviously way to easy to create new accounts to keep scamming..

Hopefully there trying out a new system and back ground checks so on and so forth like was said above :D

Maybe my thinking is wrong here, but maybe someone can help me out. I think that each of us has an ip address. Maybe Amazon could implement something where they keep track of ip addresses, and if there is a previous suspended account, then they would not approve a new account.

I originally assumed they did this already, quickly learned that's not the case. I imagine it wouldn't be a difficult process at all to block IPs. After all, it's done all the time. Of course, things like proxies can be used, and I'm not sure how all that works.

IPs can be tough to beat since anybody who bothers to understand what they are can change theirs to whatever they want anytime they want. On top of that people who don't understand IPAs benefit from the fact that they can change when you switch computers, login from a different location, or reset their router.

    Hello,

Due to the level of interest from Workers all over the world, it’s difficult to determine when this will be completed. New workers are no longer supported to our program. We are running out of time to settle down all the issues associated with AT.
I know you’re excited to get started, and I’m sorry I’m not able to provide additional insight.

    Thanks for your continued patience.

Thank you for your inquiry. Did I solve your problem?
