Hiya. I realize this is my first post, but I've been ninja-browsing since I signed up for mturk just 12 days ago. So far I've accumulated 268 HITs and a total earnings of $85.93 with $19.96 pending. Not too shabby! But, I do have a serious question. How in the heck do you people reach 100+ Hits a day? I am slow as molasses in comparison, it seems. I'd like to get my numbers up for the sake of opening up more possibilities. I try my best, but even spending ALL. DAY. LONG. on mturk doing as many HITs as I possibly can, it's still not anywhere close to that much. I have scavenged the website for 'batch' hits, but even the business card one takes me 1.5-2 minutes each, and those are only worth .02. I suppose for pure numbers' sake I could keep going, but I still don't think I could reach the kind of numbers I need to open up more options. This is more of a sincere curiosity than an emergency, but overall I'd like to earn no less than 10 dollars daily, preferably without investing 10 hours for those 10 dollars. I've tried inscription just recently and while it's alright, I get nervous about it, and it takes me about 7 times the length of the audio because of said nerves/replaying the audio multiple times to understand it. In conclusion, if anyone feels particularly helpful tonight (or whenever you see this), could anyone be so kind as to tell me how to get my numbers up, while still making decent money? If it's possible. Either way, my stats so far are looking pretty good. I think I'll be sticking around here for a long time. I was finally able to buy my fiancé a present and I feel so happy about that!
I'm fairly new to turking but I've managed to average $10 per day while still working a full-time job. I think the way people get numbers is really working solidly on some of those quicker ones - the business card ones are okay, but they do take a while for the money. Keep following the "Can't find great hits" threads and look for suggestions. Personally I have found the transcription HITs to be a pretty good balance of "quick" and "decent pay" - you get more used to them as you go, and I like the interface that CrowdSurf uses, because it's so easy to pause the playback or back up four seconds. I'm to the point now where I regularly do a 25s clip in less than a minute, so $0.10 or $0.13 when they're on bonus is a nice payout. Hope this helps, I know it's been a few days since you posted. Keep up the good work!
I too am a newbie. I started turking 2 weeks ago, and we have similar stats. I think what allows many turkers to do 100+ hits a day is the fact that they have over 1k HITs. After you get 1k HITs, it seems a lot more will open up since you'll be qualified to do them. I like to do the url search hits for CrowdSource. The scripts that mturkforums offer are extremely helpful. With one of them you can right click and highlight the text that you would normally not be able to. Ultimately, I think it's important that you find what kind of hits you like to do and experiment with them. At first I was almost only doing surveys, but mturk offers a lot of different opportunities.
Yes, a lot more opens up at 1K HITs. More will open up at 500, but so far I haven't noticed much difference. I do the transcription though. If you can get into the transcription and things like that, the money is fairly good. Speechink is pretty awesome for higher paying transcription. Crowdsurf is good too. Also make sure that you are utilizing your scripts that are found at the top of the page. I get a lot done with those scripts.
Try to manage hit approval rate more than 98%. Do hits more than 5000. Take some basic qualification test. Take jobs like venue quality, skillpages , taskrabbit . these are pay a little but most probably they don't reject hits normally. But carefull with venue quality . they post random checking hits. After hitting 5000 hits you will learn all that you want. select from the list Hit creation date(newest first). check the box you qualified for. put 0.10 the minimum pay. That's all. I think you are from US. But never get hits rejected.
Seconding this post , I would tell that always click and Select the Sort by Date (newest first). Oscar HITs are a good one for your approval rates. Venue Quality, p9r HITs also good ones.
As another Newbie chiming in, this sounds like good advice! I'm having to put a monumental effort into getting even $5, but perhaps i'm not doing this right
I just want to update this and say that to this day, I've only made $433.37. I stopped turking a while back after getting burnt out, but prior I was averaging around $10 a day, some days a little less, some days more. Honestly, that was also spending a LOT of time on mturk. I'm talking more than 8 hours a day every single day. Except on the two days my fiance had off of work. These days I am lucky to make $5 a day, maybe $10 on a tremendously exceptional day. I don't know what happened since my methods haven't changed, but I'm not averaging enough unless I do Speechink's non-verbatim HITs, which take me not too long but still only give me the equivalent of about $3 per hour. In addition, those take a ridiculous amount of time to get accepted, IF they even would be all accepted. I haven't had a rejection yet but I anticipate that that can't be a sustained trend forever. I just recently got to the 1,000 HIT mark. Yet I've been making less and less. I have no clue how people make so much. I don't and won't have professional transcription supplies, I tried but did not succeed in obtaining a CastingWords or Crowdsurf or whatever it is writing qualification, and I've been relying on surveys from the very start. On my better days at the beginning of my trek, I made $20 in a single day. Now, I'd have to do 5 hours STRAIGHT of NON STOP transcription to get that. And that's assuming none would be rejected for small errors or whatever (human error). Too much risk, not enough patience within me to wait for them to be accepted. I really need new advice. I'm at my wits end. I want to make $10 per day and not have to spend the ENTIRE day to do it. I have sacrificed my personal time completely for the past 72 hours, and I've only made $8 each day. And I'm talking ALL of my personal time. I must be doing it wrong. I sort by everything, I've tried newest, lowest time allowed, always tick qualified for, I've tried all possible combinations, setting price to .10, etc. And STILL I can't find much. What gives? How the heck is everyone else getting 20+ dollars a day without basically even having to try? I know more HITs means more options, but that doesn't explain why I was once able to procure MORE as a BRAND NEW mturker than I am now, a few months in.
In my opinion, the business card one is good for getting your HITs up. I dont think it would be good for making a profit. Although, I do type extremely fast... 98wpm, I dont feel that it is a good way to generate profit. But I do feel that it is a very good way for fast typers to get their approval rate up.
I cannot even comprehend 5000 hits at this point in time. It felt like such a grind to get to 500 and now I'm aiming for 1k. But I am also so very, very slow.
I am crap at the CastingWords transcription (too little pay for a lot of editing to follow their style guide), but I love Crowdsurf right now. Clear audio, short clips, and it's really interesting most of the time. I don't turk super frequently, but am looking to try for at least 10.00 a day (hopefully plus the .15 or whatever for potential taxes) for the coming school year so I can have a little more cushion than usual on a grad student income.
I tried castingwords and got confused with their interface. I haven't tried crowdsurf yet, I'll put that on my list.
i'm on my 4th day (2nd day of doing more than a few $0.02 ones) and i have $13.08 with $28.41 pending. hopefully i can keep doing this well or better.
you check out reddit hits worth turking for? im new and just discovered it. I average like $6 a day doing survey mostly and usually only turk for an hour or two. reddit's been a big thing for me. also based on the length of your message, and I hate saying this, but maybe you give a little too much thought into your answers when you survey? trying shooting from the gut maybe and go light on the comments at the end is the only advice I can come up with.
I still need to take the test for SpeechInk, the codes are confusing to me, like I'm not entirely sure where I should place timestamps, or why
Newbies, keep at it. Once you clear 1000 hits with 99% approval, it gets better. Mostly I do surveys and tests. I don't do batch hits for the most part, unless they pay 50 cents or higher each. I am afraid of a mass rejection lowering me below 98% approval. This would cut me off from the better hits for awhile. I average $3.57 an hour and $1.02 per hit. Keep in mind these are average figures since I started 7 months ago, about the same time as Ashonym who started this thread. I make about 25 to 35 dollars a day.
