Why are there so many scammers on right now? These are the guys who want you to sign up through some 3rd party website, attach it to your facebook and then send them back your "Stellars" (Whatever the heck THOSE are). Sounds like some kind of virtual currency scam to me. I've reported about six or eight of these guys just today and I hope you all help me out. Get rid of them!!

That's me. Happy to answer any questions. I've approved every single HIT I've reviewed so far, and will be reviewing the remaining outstanding ones.

In a nutshell, "Stellars" are a new virtual currency like Bitcoin. The organization behind Stellars is just giving it away, 6000 Stellars to each user who registers by Facebook.

All of these HITs are just guys/gals like me who want to collect as many Stellars as we can in the hopes they'll be worth something in the future. There is no market for Stellars at the moment, so myself (and I assume these other requesters) are just trying to buy Stellars from mturk workers. Simple as that.

Feel free to email me or PM me to find out more. Or give my HIT a go and see if I am good for my word:

(If you do the HIT and are happy, please reply back -- thanks!)

Thanks for clearing the air. I see nothing wrong with these HITs if they are in compliance with AMT tos.

Actually that is incorrect. They have started to be traded on justcoin.com and they seem to be going for rates between $18-30 per 6000 stellars.

And I think it is against the AMT Tos.

As you can clearly see, this entire operation is, in fact, against Mechanical Turk terms of service.

Well, well, well! So they can sell the 6000 Stellars for $18-30 dollars, but these requesters will gladly pay ME $1-5 dollars for those same Stellars. Ah, I see now. And it's NOT a scam. Uh huh.

By the way--what's to keep ME from selling those Stellars and keeping ALL the money for myself? Thanks--I think I just found a way to pay off my mortgage!

Do I have any questions??? Sure! Here's one: Where do you people get off?? You've flooded MTurk with this nonsense, you're running an obvious scam, you're violating the MTurk TOS and you're insulting ALL of us here by thinking we're naive enough to fall for your b.s.!

I don't care if you pay for your hits, you're running a scam! You're abusing Stellar's free coin giveaway, trying to shill MTurkers out of their own earnings, whitewashing your behavior and acting like it's okay! Well it's not okay! Are my words too strong for you? Boo hoo! That's what you get for thinking people are stupid!

Thanks for the reply, your words aren't too strong, I understand your POV. You're right it is probably in violation of the TOS, and my requester account was reported for that violation, my HITs are no longer active and I don't plan on trying to restore them.

As for there being a market for Stellars, at the time of my posting there was NOT such a market. Stellars are merely a few days old and anyone posting HITs on mturk offering USD for STR was really the only market for the first 2-3 days. There is a market on JustCoin now, I'll give you that.

I'm not trying to be facetious with this next question: but for those who did complete the Stellar registration and held on to them, have you sold them over at JustCoin? It looks like after exchanging to Bitcoin then to USD you'd get $25 for them. It's a significantly better rate than any of the HITs but the tradeoff is figuring how to get setup, making the transfers and then waiting for the site to cash out your account.

Hi guys. I've spoken with Marshall Hayner, part of the Stellar team.
Stellar has nothing to do with this, and they've contacted Amazon to try to get the HITs removed.

Stellar is a brand new legitimate non-profit organization.
It seems some people have recently found Stellar, and decided to try to make a few quick bucks by trying to pay workers a couple of bucks for receiving virtual currency that is worth much more than that.

I believe that Marshall, or one of the other team members, will be addressing the issue on the forum.
So, just passing the word onto you guys for now.
Stellar is not a scam and they are most concerned with what's going on here.

Here's info about Stellar if you're interested.

Thank you. I agree; a lot of people were taking advantage of Stellar's promotion; and possibly cheating new Stellar users out of their earnings. I'm glad the Stellar people found out about this, because it can get everyone into shady legal territory, as it would make MTurk into a virtual currency go-between. Take care!
