It definitely is. I've failed it and basically sat twiddling my thumbs. I always happens to me right in the middle of a great batch and i'm just watching the HITs go down and honestly I think that sometimes it's a system error because I will enter the captcha and check it twice and it'll still say it's wrong...my eyes can't be that bad!

If you think you honest to god got the captcha right refresh the page. Basically while you were wasting your time entering the captcha another turker snatched up the hit. Your captcha was right and mturk actually recognizes that, but for some reason fuckery happens with batches.
I figure as much, even though there's a message for that too it probably mixes the error messages up and then gets my account halted
I was thinking about doing some more but then I read the reviews... Seems like the dude rejected a few people and changed his requester name. I'm just going to leave it at the ones that I do have and not risk getting a bunch of rejections.
