This is a very irritating issue with quite a few of the forums I belong to. Why can't people read the forums? I get so tired of seeing threads started every day by newbies just asking for information to be hand fed to them. Examples: I am new......... What are the best hits? What do I do to make fast money? Tell me what to do please. Read the damned forum and figure it out!
I wish this was Facebook so I could like this 100 times. I am guilty of not reading before I post. I think we all are at some point But newbies especially should spend more time reading before asking questions. It's like the person who starts asking questions at the beginning of the movie -- "who's that? what's she gonna do? is he gonna die?" Before I signed up to this forum I spent more time reading than Turking. I always checked to see if someone had the same issue before me before I bothered asking a question -- which is why it took so long for me to sign up lol. And for awhile I stopped doing forums at all. I like Turking because it allows me to do things the way that work best for me -- I never expected or even wanted anyone to tell me what HITs are the best or which ones I should do.
Guilty! GUILTY! Or certainly have been on occasion... Some times we can all be very self-centered and wanting that immediate answer... I did try, here anyway, not to do that. And I think I was modestly successful! I do think that the members of this forum are some of the best of any forum I have ever belonged to and that makes me WANT to contribute more. That's for sure! All of you are wonderful! Thanks for all your help and advise!
You guy's are talking about the 1000 messages about no new accounts being made on mturk? I am like don't they already have this posted on the forum. It just takes longer to go through the threads, when you have a million posts that are all the same.
It'd be nice if someone with more knowledge of Turking than myself, took the time to write up a FAQ. Get that bad boy stickied on the front page and maybe there'd be less questions of the same nature.
I dont get why it's needed when I started in april I just lurked this site until I finally joined in may, by then I was pretty much up to speed with everything just by reading through this and other forum sites. Like hello newbies you dont need a high school diploma to turk, it ain't that hard.
I'm writing a book for Turkers and requesters alike. I'll make it 99 cents on the Kindle store. Then everyone can STFU.
Well I am pretty well versed in the turking ways but I don't think it would help... they would not read it anyway. After all, they don't read three threads down and see that the same question is already there. The sad part is that it would take quite a bit of work from the admin to keep it from happening in this forum. I am lucky enough to have help in my forum but I feel for Andy with this one.
I figure no harm no foul... Some one will have the time and take pity and answer the question of a lazy newbie... If not they will be forced to search through the threads... In any event - I want to be TOO BUSY MAKING MONEY TO WORRY about the newbies... I'll always help when asked because I was a newbie and still rather am! And if it wasn't for people like you all I would still be working 8 hours for $2 and eating HITs from bad requesters! Lazy Newbie bashing can be fun - but not a money making use of time..
Newbie bashing is not fun. I enjoy helping newbies that want to help themselves. Stupid newbie bashing however, is a necessary evil.
Yeah, you're right. For people like me it would've helped though. I always try to read those FAQs when I'm new to a forum. Beats having to wait for someone or potentially no one answering your question.
