We are collecting data for research purposes, and have very limited funds, so we need to be frugal, but I want to be fair. What would be an acceptable pay rate for a hit per minute of time that it takes? A 15 minute hit that is fun but requires some thought should pay you how much?

Hopefully you're planning to open your hit to non-US workers!

A total payment of 50 to 75 cents would seem fair (and attractive) to me.

10c/minute MINIMUM. That's $6/hour -- less than U.S. minimum wage. That should include load time. Have someone you work with who isn't too familiar with the information do a couple of them in the sandbox to be sure they work properly and to figure out timing. Adjust pay if Turkers aren't completing them as quickly as you can.

JSYK, some of us consider Turking our "real" job. Just because something is fun does not mean we will do it for peanuts. We expect to be compensated fairly for our time and I for one will not work for less than $6/hour.

If it's going to take 15 minutes I would say somewhere around the $1 - $2 range would probably be attractive to most people. If you offer .05 for something that takes a person 15 minutes.. well I will just say you get what you pay for.

this is not an acceptable amount for a 15-minute survey

    $.75 - $1.00 for a 15-20 min survey is best.

This. And you'll be lucky if you get it done at all. Many underpaying requesters have work that sits on the board for months at a time. Create a qualification, pay fairly, and your work will be done correctly and quickly.

Then I hope luck is on his side because he will get shit for data -- click scammers, newbies, and people that don't care.

It's still not an acceptable amount, regardless of funding.

Ok and if he puts out high paying hits with limited funds he would still be in the same predicament, it won't be enough to cover all the work.

Side Note: Why can't anyone have an opinion without having a great debate on how much I'm wrong ?? Goddamnit

5 cents is way to low..even with limited funding...we don't even know what their limited funding means..but I would say you might gets some people to do it at .80 cents.. that really should be the lowest amount

Then I guess he picks from the lesser of two evils, which is really up to him. I'm just saying, I won't work for less than 10c/min or $6/hour, and neither will many other career Turkers -- the ones with knowledge and experience here. If I go past the time I'll return the HIT.

Welcome to the internet. I'm always right.

I didn't "pick" at your opinion..I stated how I felt about it..didn't mean any harm...but my fault if I offended you with my opinion.

$6 per hour is fair. His funding is his problem. I have funding issues of my own, it's called life! So $1.50 to $2.00 should be about right for this hit.

lmao right? I have funding issues, they're called kids, and they don't eat unless I make a certain amount each day. I can't waste time on HITs that don't pay enough when I can find enough that do.

A scotch and a biscotti will do because most of us are drunk enough to work at such low prices.

We want to be fair to people and have good work done. The quality of the results is paramount to us, and we'd much rather cut back on the amount of work to be done to assure that the data we do collect is of high quality.

From what we have seen, the people who will attempt to scam us will do so regardless of how much we pay! We have conducted non-crowdsourced sandboxing with undergraduate college students to have a baseline prediction for what sort of performance we expect to get on the qualification task.

Thank you for your input on the pricing. It sounds like $6/hr is considered a good rate. Because we are hoping for a large number of participants, in order to do cross validation and statistics based on performance and accuracy, I will try and create hits that individually pay $.50 or so, which will mean reducing the amount of work done per hit.
