How many of you guys used him a lot?

I been using him starting out. He pays very low, 2 cents per card, but I've been getting all them approved in less then an hour, helping my rating also. :)

I figure for every 25,000 I knock out, thats $500.00. Of coarse 25,000 is a lot, but I'm getting quicker and quicker as I get used to every entry and key stroke.

Yeah.. those pay like $1.50/hour. The only people that should be doing them are newbies and people without any other quals whatsoever. Only use them to get your numbers up. Search the forum for his name.

The thing I like, is the quick pay. I can do a couple hundred of them, go to walmart, come back, and my moneys there! Any others that pay the same day that are highly reptuable?

Not that post anything even close to the number of hits Oscar does. You can almost always find an Oscar hit, but hits by most other quick payers tend to show up irregularly and disappear in an instant.

For that reason, and pretty much that reason alone, it's not a bad idea to stick to Oscar for a while at first, to build up a layer of stat protection. And then never work them again...

CrowdFlower and CrowdSource are better than Oscar Smith IMO. Some of their HITs have qualifications but are usually low (95% approval and 1000 HITs) and some have none at all. They usually pay within a day.

I know, when you're new it's all very exciting to start getting money. You'll get past that though ;) My goal used to be $20/week and I hated any requester that didn't approve me right away. I think I was just paranoid though after being burned by so many work at home "opportunities" before. Now I have HITs from almost a month ago that haven't approved and I don't care. I still withdraw money at least 3x/day and make at least $25/day.

Try to only do HITs that don't pay great (no matter how fast they pay) until you get your 1000 HITs approved. If you continue to do HITs that pay less than minimum wage, you give them the impression that they never have to raise their pay because their work will always get done. Which gives new requesters the impression that they can pay $1.50/hour and get perfect data. And it's a lose-lose for everybody.

When I first started Oscar Smith was one of the main requesters that I did work for along with Crowdsource and Crowdflower. They are very reliable. I have never had problems with any, they always pay and from what I have read here on this forum, with the exception of one thread I have never heard of any of these requesters blocking or scamming people. They could pay more. But look at some of the work posted by other requesters who pay just as little if not less and constantly reject or block you from future work. I personally wouldn't recommend Product Rnr, they seem to block people constantly, at least they used to. They blocked me.
Oscar Smith approves and pays quickly and he definitely helps get your numbers up. I'm not sure why some of the members on this forum dislike him but I like his system of judging..if you screw up..he lowers your score, you improve it goes back up, it's a grading system. My score with him goes from 88 to 92. I'd rather that grade system and get paid than rejections, not get paid and mess up my stats.

I did hit hits a long time ago and all were approved. He's ok... small pay for the work but good to get your hits up.

I also did the Oscar hits when I needed to get my numbers up. 25,000 is a lot to do, no matter how fast you are, for the simple fact that so many people use him to boost numbers when they get burned with mass rejections and need a quick fix.

You know, what I appreciate about Oscar is that he's reliable and fair---he's upfront about his payrate, and you can take it or leave it. Plus, if you take it, he'll pretty much pay you. Nothing shady about that.

Crowdflower pays worse, considering the amount of work lots of their HITs seem to take.

But back to Oscar...since I'm an overthinker, I do have to hand it to him for knowing his market, or maybe that's his workforce. Just like footballchick said, there'll always be Turkers who need HITs like Oscar provides. I did a bunch of HITs for him in the very beginning (not that I'm anything but a newbie Turker yet!), and he's still gonna be one of my go-to requesters if I ever need to pull my stats up in a hurry.

So I do agree that the principle is, no one should have to work for shockingly low pay. But I also assume that when Turkers take Oscar's HITs, they do it because they want to or need to, even if just to improve their stats so they can do other work instead. So in that sense, they're temporarily getting value out of his work that's beyond the .02/HIT. Is it wrong of me to think that's an even trade all around?

Yes, they have found a way to give themselves a compensatory value to offset their slave wages. Doesn't make me hate them any less, but I do admire their ingenuity.

You'd be better off searching for loose change in your backyard with a metal detector than working on this clown's hits.

I don't know about the use of the words "slave wages"...that seems a little harsh.

Yes, the pay is low but in no way am I a slave. I choose to do this work so that I can stay home. Take my kid to school, pick her up, help with homework, cook dinner, etc. I'm pretty sure most of us could go out and find better paying jobs...but we are all here for different reasons and using the words "slave wages" I find a little degrading. Like I always say in these types of threads...if you don't like the pay, requester..for the amount of time you put in, then move on.

I make very little turking but it's enough to help my family, at times I feel like I should be contributing more, doing more, we went from two decent paying jobs to one dependable one and one turking job..but I'm doing what I think is helping my family most at this time, making sure my kid is growing up as balanced as possible and somehow there is always someone out there just shitting all over it. When you say that someone pays "slave wages" how do you think the worker feels? Are you hurting the requester with those words or the worker?

I get that there are some requesters out there that don't pay enough, I am in no way saying that we shouldn't share bad experiences with requesters, unfair Hits/pay but shitting on work that someone else considers decent is plain mean. State your claim..fairly..If Oscar doesn't work for you, say it but don't degrade the rest of us while doing it.

Yeah, except there is one problem with that philosophy. If everyone just sits back and accepts it then you are basically telling this scumbags that it's OK to prey on the desperate with their garbage wages.

You really think you can stand up to any of the requesters on Mturk? It's like anything else...Everything from McDonalds to Wall Street...You aren't going to change it, unless, if you are lucky and you have a union, and even then the union isn't always doing what is best for their employees. It's that easy...I get the whole "stand up to the man" type of attitude but unfortunately that isn't how the world runs anymore. You can either waste your energy, fight, get full of anger, anxiety, etc or move on, not give up but move on to what ever you consider better let someone else do it.

Are you kidding? You've never encountered the common English phrase "slave wages" before and take it to mean I'm literally calling his workers slaves? I can't decide if you're being obtuse or just really touchy, but either way... LMAO

    I'm sorry.
    Really. I am.
It's just that that's some unintentionally funny shit right there.

It's not being touchy..All I'm saying is that if you think the requester is unfair with his/her pay... say just that. I don't think that I was being touchy, this thread was started by a newbie...and I feel that the best thing is to be honest, I like Oscar Smith, I stated why, If you don't like Oscar Smith state why, there is no need to be rude. All you had to say is "I think the pay is unfair for the amount of work that is required for me to do." That simple. I'm glad I made you laugh, believe me...this has also started a very good conversation in my home.

Calling a seventh of minimum wage slave wages isn't rude: it's the simple truth. Particularly when that sliver of a living wage is offered via an interface that allows an employer to avoid forking over anything in the way of payroll taxes. If anything, I expressed that truth much more kindly than darling Oscar deserves.

Your dislike of that basic truth doesn't negate it. And that's what your touchiness, and by God you are touchy, is all about. You don't like feeling taken advantage of, so you've decided it's your choice to allow yourself to be, when in reality, circumstances have forced you into turking. It's not as if you've passed up some dream job to do this instead. I know this because none of us have.

Sorry, but that too, is just the simple truth.

Here's why I hate Oscar Smith: Because I know what I'm worth, and he pays less than 1/6th of my MINIMUM hourly wage I will accept (and that's only on work I enjoy). And it kind of makes me sick to see other people accept that as an hourly wage.
