So a week ago I messaged FE saying that I noticed they were in a Chicago grocery store and I was just curious if I was correct in that, and they never messaged me back. That makes me think that they send workers into grocery stores without approval by the stores. Thoughts?

Since when is it illegal to take pictures of products inside of a grocery store?

A lot of retail stores have a no photography policy. It depends.

But I just think FE is touchy on their clandestine methods is all.

  10. Shopkick app makes ya take pictures of upc codes at many different stores for points

Im sure they do, plenty of apps have the some idea too, they make you go take pics of PDQ's and displays, or products for money. Fieldagent was one.

It's not illegal but stores are private property. If it's a chain store you can bet they'll have a policy against people taking pictures or filming. The way FE takes a bunch of pictures of products they'd pretty much have to be invited or own the store to begin with. They in big chain stores though with some of the store brands shown so I'd guess it's scientific and they're getting permission

Yeh, but who is going to enforce it? Everyone has a smart phone. Hell sometimes I scan stuff with my barcode scanner just to check prices. As long as you aren't taking detailed pictures of the store itself, I wouldn't think they'd have a problem.

It's not illegal, but against store policy, used to do Loss Prevention in one, kicked people out for pic taking.

Yup, especially if you're taking pictures for commercial purposes. And I've noticed that FE has been a quite a few different stores (I recognize them). So I hope they've been granted the appropriate clearance. Though most of these stores are very corporate, so something tells me they haven't...

The reason I'm saying this is because (not all that long ago) I worked at a grocery store and people would do some things that were obviously against "store policy" but nobody really cared. Maybe I didn't see all that happened and maybe this was before smart phones hit it big so... yeh

    Depends on the store.

Oh for sure. And if this were the case then they've obviously done well not running into trouble. I'm just pointing out that I was suspicious of them being touchy about the subject.

Saw this earlier and thought about you! Also, now it isn't coming out until September 24th, so we have to wait another week.
