i don't think it would.. i think the threads would have better participation and what I mean is that many of us just post on here replies to off topic comments.. many dont even do it via pm.. and having a chat option would defiantly cut down on that. the downside would be for people who are very familiar with a specific task would get rushed with IM's asking advice.. or just in general people may turk less.

Thanks for the 40 page tip footballchick. Here is a tip for everyone if you change the forum skin to "sem" it makes everything wider and less scrunched up.
My take is that chats and shoutboxes ruin communities. They take the 'conversation' outside. I ruined a million post gaming forum that I owned by adding a shoutbox/chat. Activity was high at first in the shoutbox, but eventually died. And because the conversation was taking place on the shout, the forum became inactive. Thus new users were discouraged from registering There are other turking forums that do have chats/shoutboxes, but they are on the downslope (TN, for example). I think it's best to keep it here.
