I see a lot of final fantasy talk in here so I figure this is as good a place as any to ask

there's a ton of Square Enix stuff half off or so in the humble store this week and I feel like buying one of these for the hell of it

If I had to recommend a Square Enix game, it'd be Tomb Raider or Hitman. Final Fantasy went downhill so quick it was amazing.

But out of those two... definitely 3. 8 is emo garbage that people only liked at the time 'cuz wow flashy tech and look at all these CDs it came on!

 

8...and make sure you grind for levels early on in the game.

out of curiosity which tomb raider would you recommend? I bought the reboot in the summer steam sale(and blood money which from what I hear is considered the best hitman game)

I meant the reboot. I am not a fan of Tomb Raider, but I am a fan of Crystal Dynamics (all Soul Reavers, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, etc) and they made the new Tomb Raider. The new Hitman reboot was horrible console-inspired decline, but all modern games are that way. Blood Money is better, but the new Hitman can be fun in a "turn off your brain, enjoy the glitz" way. It also isn't as bad as some reboots, there's some levels that manage to achieve that sandboxy feel that made old Hitman games so fun.

If you don't come in with any expectations, I'd rate both games highly.
