So, I'm new. Been Turking only since Sept 1, and I think I might have found this forum a few days before that. But yanno, ITA with the general sentiment of this thread.

Maybe I'm just not that patient. But I even feel kind of annoyed when people ask the very questions that I busted my tail trying to answer for myself. Except that I got my answers by searching this forum, pretty much wearing out the search! I find myself thinking, I just did my own huge reading binge this month, so I know it can be done: everything you need to know can be found by reading the threads that are already here. Plus lots of info a newbie would never even think to ask!

And by the way, this forum is a terrific source of information! It's important to me to try to give back by contributing, too, so that's my goal in joining and being here. Which is funny, because it sounds like there are complaints that forum members aren't willing to answer questions. But I guess I'm saying -- I want to answer questions by putting stuff here so that I can say it once, and people can find it in the future. That makes sense to me.

So, I was kind of thinking of making a thread with a list of suggestions for newbies, since I am a newbie. Really more a "smart ways to work" thread than a "here are all the secrets!" Maybe something like the post I made here. In fact, that post'd probably be the core of that new thread's content.

How would people feel about that? I'm hoping for thoughts from vets and newbies on the idea. Would it help matters?

Sounds like a fabulous idea to me.

Then we could just give newbies who post the same question for the fifth time that day a link to your thread. (Which they would then complain about being expected to click.)

I think that would be a great idea. Some newbies have never been on a forum before joining here. They would like to contribute but don't know how.I agree you should do a lot of searching and reading. Point them in the right direction as your thread would.

Thank you, ohsostrange and chevymama2, for weighing in! And LOL, ohsostrange...there will always be complaints about having to do any work for good information, sadly.

BTW, as far as this thread's topic generally, it occurred to me that maybe people just don't understand forums. They're used to having live conversations, where it's not so dumb to come in, in the middle, and go, "what's going on? Fill me in!!" So they do that here, not really thinking about the fact that everything that's ever been discussed around here is archived and searchable, and there's no need for people to "fill them in" when they can fill themselves in by reading.

But some of them make these 'serve me, underlings' posts and then, when too few people leap to do their bidding, or don't do so as quickly or as thoroughly as their little hearts desire, list the dozen other forums they belong to, where 'nobody ever treats them like this.' *snort*

They're not new to forums. They're just rude.
