Point was to utilize a form where others could submit simultaneously. Submissions would then be automatically alphabetized. Also, every Rubin batch is different - yes there is some overlap, but not much generally. Edit - and you don't need to neg-rep me as a form of criticism. We build on each others' ideas, that's the point of a forum. If you'd like, I'll share with you how I made the form to collect schools, and how I got it to alphabetize. I think it would be best if each Rubin batch had its own spreadsheet, because there is generally little overlap (but not none, you are correct).
OK, I understand. But I think one searchable spreadsheet can reduce time over all. In finding schools and making spreadsheets. The one I put up was alphabetized and anyone could add a school(s) they found but it didn't automatically alphabetize. I kept going back to it and re-alphabetized it. So I would love to know the function you use for doing it automatically. I like your submit form, well made. I didn't even think about making one of those. As far as your neg-rep, I use reddit a ton, thus when I came here and saw the two buttons side by side I figured they were like the upvote/downvote type. So when I saw your post which appeared to me as just a rework of the hard work I already did I downvoted you. It seems that is not how this forum works though. It doesn't look like I can un-neg-rep you as I get this message: 'You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to srdress again'. So sorry about that.
I appreciate your response. I'm not a reddit-er, but I get where you're coming from. Maybe a post up-vote down-vote would be a useful tool instead of an individual rep score... anyway, that's not my department haha. Regarding the submit form and auto-alphabetize, I did a lot of googling about Google Drive and such. It basically uses two google spreadsheets - one where people input data using the form, and one that uses a formula to input a range of data from that spreadsheet while sorting it on school name. I'll post details in a separate post.
Google Forms/Spreadsheet Guide - assumes some familiarity with Google Spreadsheets 1. In Google Drive, make a new spreadsheet. This will be for data entry only. Make it viewable to the public (but you will never distribute this link). Freeze the header row (under View). Ex: “RUBINfindcoursedata” 2. From that spreadsheet, make a form (under Forms). Change the title and theme to your liking. This will be where people can input their data. 3. Now make a second spreadsheet, which will be the alphabetized list. Make it viewable to the public. Ex: “RUBINcoursesalphabetized” 4. You will need to input the data from your data-entry spreadsheet into your alphabetized spreadsheet. Copy the header row and freeze it. In cell A2, paste the formula =SORT (importRange("key","sheet1!B2:F1000")) The “key” is in the URL of your data entry sheet.
