Hi everyone, I am finding this to be a much friendlier forum than TN. I wish I would have found it sooner!

Anyway, I have a question on what scripts or add-ons you find make transcriptions easier. I have installed Fast Fox expander, so that is helpful, but I don't know what else to use. Should I purchase Express Scribe or is there a free version I can use? I'm broke so I don't want to spend too much money on scripts, but I am willing to spend money if the return is good enough.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Most of the scripts I use are just for looking for HITs in mturk. I do use autocorrect within Word to complete words from abbreviations. For example, when I type btw, it becomes between.

I use the free version of Express Scribe and have done so since 2008. I don't have a pedal, I use the hot keys - which I've customized - in Express Scribe to stop and start audio.

The free version of Express Scribe helped me tremendously. Well enough to help me figure out I don't like doing transcription hits.

And from what I've read here and read there...you'll find it a lot less hectic and less clique-ey here.

I use the free version of Express Scribe. I use a word expander (and sometimes a foot pedal) as well, which I already had from my days as a transcriptionist. I totally agree with Mayhem about using the autocorrect in Word. It's a handy tool to use instead of a regular word expander.

If I'm doing short transcriptions, like ClariTrans, I don't use any of the extra tools. If I'm doing a long transcription that I can download, I use the pedal, the expander, and Express Scribe. AND NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES! :)

Additionally, if you do purchase a word expander, I suggest ShortHand because it's really versatile.

Thank you so much for the responses. I cannot believe how "willing" everyone is to help on this site verse spamgirl and her nonsense. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
