Anyone ever do his HITs? I just did one, which was actually my first transcription job. At first I was a little hesitant because he didn't put much up for a style guide, all he really specified was to make sure the speakers are labeled. Wasn't sure if I should do verbatim with "ums", "uhs", etc or eliminate those and clean things up. Anyway, it was a 3.5 minute interview, great audio quality with very clear speakers, and paid $2.00. Because the speech and audio was so clear it didn't really take very long to do, maybe 10 minutes. Keep in mind that this was my first transcription job, so I'm sure that those who are more experienced could do it even faster. Still for a new transcriber 10 minutes for $2 equates to $12/hr. Not bad. The best part... it took about 10 minutes for my submission to be approved.
Hey, that's great news! Random, independent requesters who want audio done -- I usually hear crappy audio and crappy pay. I tend to stay away from them. That's a great pay rate. A tip for transcription jobs with no style guide: Be consistent. If you type OK fifteen times and they want Okay, it's much easier to change all of the OKs at once.
I've seen some transcription HITs from requester(s) with various names. The job notes look similar but the requester's name will change from one job to the next. I don't know but, due to the similarities in the notes, I assume that those may be just one requester using various pseudonyms?* But I haven't seen the requester name you mentioned, so I don't know if this is one of the same group. Personally I tend to stick with certain well-known transcription requesters. * Edit: No, the "template" explanation (posted by moonwalker below) seems more likely.
That I'm not sure of, but I checked TO and there are 12 reviews for this requester. All are positive except for one, who essentially admitted that he submitted a poor transcript
I think they look similar just because they use a template of transcription jobs which is provided by Mturk. I do transcriptions for these kinda requesters. Sometimes you may come across real good deals with good audio and better pay, approves quick but you will never see them again.
