As to why so many HITs are restricted to US workers, I can think of two reasons. One, the HIT task requested is a survey which requires the worker to live in the United States for demographic purposes. The second is that the HIT is of a nature that requires native-level language abilities in English, especially a strong command of the many weird quirks that exist in the language (remember that English is basically two languages smashed together with a weird grammar and a healthy dose of words swiped from virtually every other language on Earth). On top of that, there are variations from the standard like American English and Australian English, which don't quite qualify quite as separate languages, but sometimes sure seem like they do! I've seen also hits where people from India or Pakistan are specifically excluded, and I think many of those are specifically language-based, but I've not done anything like a survey of them. One last possible cause for the restriction is that might there be legal issues with some hits, like the ones that screen for pornographic images on forums? I'm given to understand that such things are absolutely not allowed in some countries and might actually get the requester (or worse, the worker) in legal trouble.
I think that is correct.. giving sentiment on tweets is even hard for native English speakers sometimes. (I am one) - A generation gap or two can make the difference as well in these.
