We all want to help out new people, but it can get tiring having to repeat myself over and over when the same questions are asked. I'm sure others feel the same way. I think it would be a good idea to develop a list of questions that newbies are always asking and pin it at the top so they can just read through that. Just a thought.
Not that it guarantees people are going to use it, but it would be convenient. I imagine said thread exists somewhere... buried in years of turk posts.
=) But they won't read it and they'll ask the same questions anyways. Some people have given great, in-depth answers to questions. And yes, they're scattered throughout the boards and threads. Maybe one day I'll go through and find the posts (with the proper quote structure) and save them in a word doc - or just a link open to the right page. That'll cause threads constantly being revived (maybe) but meh. I try to stick to the CW threads. There are juicy tidbits here and there I venture out for =)
Yeah, but even if they don't use it before asking their question, it will be easier to just direct them to that thread instead of typing out a 2 paragraph response to their question.
Honestly, I won't put time into something like that because then it seems like work. I think it's a good idea for what you're saying though.
New Member POV Hi - New member here (still waiting in line for account approval). From a newbie perspective, I think a FAQ would be very helpful. I've spent a fair amount of time over the last few days reading these boards. It's been a bit frustrating trying to find answers to questions I'm sure someone else has asked in the past. What about a "Newbie Questions Answered Here" thread? (separate from the Introductions thread) That would narrow down search parameters for new people, and eventually the answers to common questions would all be in one place. T </relurks>
Or instead of a sticky for that, a small tutorial on how to use the search feature for the forum. Or both.
Hey guys, I want to stick away from the stickies (no pun intended). But I am open to editing the FAQ if you guys write up some stuff for it. If you guys look at TN and in the forum discussion area, their first like 20 to 50 posts are stickies. I want to be completely opposite of that.
