They're not the fastest way to make money... Not at all! Working attentively, I make still just about one USD per hour.

However, the HITs are very interesting, laid back, and available.

Because of this, I consider them filler HITs, work I do in my bed or on my couch using my laptop. Nice little work to do on the side to get my HITs up, approval rate up, and I make a few quarters as well.

    What about you, fellow turkers?

I did a few the first day and decided to stay away... they pay is just so low it isn't worth my spare time. I don't think I averaged a dollar per hour doing their HITs. Why get a few quarters when some other crap HITs will at least give you a couple bucks?

Well, again, I personally enjoy doing them in bulks to get my averages up and find the work relaxing.

Personally, I don't much enjoy their HITs
... just not my cup of tea.

I am glad that you can enjoy them, though. :)

    Some observations:

On the "Style" HITs, the style selections seem somewhat limited.

There is a style tag for "Landscapes" -- but apparently these must only capture "nature" and must be entirely "free of man-made obstructions" (are some exceptions permitted?).

Was the "Scenic" tag added recently? This encompasses "pleasing views of natural and man made features." This is a versatile tag. (Still, there are some photos for which this attribute might be debatable.)

There is a style tag for "aerial views" taken with a camera "not supported by a ground-based structure." ... Perhaps it might be helpful to add another tag for "overhead" views taken from high ground or from tall buildings.

There is a style tag for "low-angle views"; that may seem clear enough, but in some cases we may be unsure. (Elsewhere we can find some confusing examples in a collection of so-called "low-angle" photography; any really precise definition is debatable.)

There is a "wide angle" tag, but the given definition is restrictive: "... The main subject is magnified while the background is blurred." ... AFAIK that is not the right definition of "wide angle."

On the Tag Moderation HITs, I'd sometimes get confused about whether or not to apply a particular tag. Example:

One photo showed a building in a business/industrial district, with a massive sign above (behind) it, screaming: "WAREHOUSE"! ... Naturally, someone tagged the photo as a Warehouse.

But IIRC the warehouse building itself was entirely hidden behind the building in front. So you had this huge sign shouting "WAREHOUSE" and yet there was no warehouse actually visible in the photo.

In that case, should the "Warehouse" tag be kept or discarded? The correct choice is obvious to us. Yet I'm sure some may disagree with our conclusion.

Other debatable cases abound. For example: someone may add a tag referencing some relatively minor or secondary feature, clearly present but only as a lesser part of the scene, debatably irrelevant to the primary subject matter. Would you keep the tag, or would you discard it? You would make the right choice, but others might disagree.

On the tag-moderation HITs, I'd often do 'too much research,' which admittedly can be enjoyable. (In particular, I enjoyed researching some images from the New York historical collection.)

But again, even after some research, I'd often waste time puzzling over whether a particular tag 'should' be kept or discarded.

This tagging stuff is not my cup of tea.
I'm glad you can enjoy it. Have fun! :)

The NYC ones were interesting indeed. I loved doing those.
I posted some of the pictures I saved on another forum.

copywrite permission....what's that....LOL....If it lets you right click and save on the pic as far as I am concerned you can use it. If you try using it and claiming it is yours then you could get in trouble. I have my desk top picture file set to run as a slide show and currently have 235. About have are from sites offering desktop pics but the other half are ones I found just stumbling (love that site). I have a couple that wouldn't let me right click but screenshots and paint fix that problem....since no one but me sees my desktop I don't worry.

Be very careful of this requester. I too liked doing the New York photos. I had a 100% acceptance rating from this requester and a few weeks ago got a mass rejection. He would do noting about it and even put a block on my account. the block was removed, but the rejections remained. It effected my overall acceptance rating and I have still not completely recovered. Be warned, the cheapness of these hits is just not worth it.

I actually do a lot of them. Like you said they're fast, gets your hits and approval rate up. Mine has been at 99.1 for a year now, but I did a batch, can't even remember who it was, tho I could check real fast, something about, "Where would this type of lighting belong" and got knocked to my feet!! I think he approved 10 out of 200!! I should have never done that many I suppose. But it was fast and the pay was cheap so I figured he would approve them all. My bad. Now I'm at 97 and want to get up to my 99. So, I'm concentrating a lot on the tagasauris.

I did a HIT to moderate image tags, and found it easy and rather enjoyable. Then, I came to a tag that was on the forbidden list for being too vague, though technically accurate. I was unsure if I should just mark it as a wrong tag, or what, so I decided to email him. While trying to email, my HIT was somehow submitted with it being only half finished. Should I try and explain via email, or just let it go?

Definitely explain your error so that he doesn't reject you! I had that happen to me once where I hit enter before I could answer the last question I was supposed to answer. I emailed to apologize and gave him my answer in the email to make his survey complete. I was approved. Whew. Always email when in doubt or when anything goes wrong.

Thank you! I'm doing that right now.

I pretty much assumed he'd reject regardless, since I technically deserve it, but it does make me feel better to tell him what happened.

With the photo style HITs, are the paintings "still life" because they are photos of the paintings or are the paintings to be looked at as a photo?
    Thank you for your advice
