I am working on a list of Hits you can do on the iPad. What works and doesn't And what is faster on the iPad than the PC? Would anyone be interested in that? Opps typo in Subject - and wont let me fix
I'm sure there'd be some interest for something like that. I never turk from my nook though. Are some HITs actually faster on the iPad? Sounds cool.
I can't help thinking that anyone who can afford crApple stuff is probably not working on mTurk. Maybe I'm wrong...
I can afford one. Heck I have a fulltime 9-5 job that does pay well. Turking is just extra money and something to pass the time with. - A little extra pocket money a month goes a long way. But some of the sentiment, classify pics, click the naughty pic ones are much faster on the iPad since you can scroll and tap fast on those. Zooming is easier as you dont have to click always.
I resent that statement. I am a dedicated long-time Mac user. I prefer quality products with top-tier customer service to back them up, and that is exactly what Apple provides. I would be more than interested in being able to turk from an iPad, or even my phone.
Resent away, it doesn't change my opinion and I'm not trying to change yours! If I could afford to spend over the odds for a product I wouldn't be wasting my precious time on microtasking for pennies.
Yeah, I think you'd be surprised how many people that turk just do it for some extra cash while also maintaining a full time job that pays well. I could buy an IPad if I wanted one, but I have a decent level of disdain for Apple and its business practices. I am looking into getting one of those Motorola Xoom tablets though, they look pretty cool. Also, a lot of people turk so that they CAN afford those types of things without dipping into what they make at their jobs. If I wasn't worried about something funky happening with Amazon and losing my account for some weird reason, I'd just keep letting my account build up until it was around $400 then just use the balance to buy my tablet, which would only take probably 5 weeks, maybe less if one week was particularly good.
It's not wasting time, it's making money. Making money is good, and just because you make a solid full time income doesn't mean that you don't also want to make even more in your off time. I work hits that are going to pay me $5/hr or better, so I'm not sitting there working for pennies for extended periods of time. If there's nothing good available, I go do something else with my time and check back later to see what's come up.
I have one of the first ones I got for a birthday present the first year they came out-- if you had a dedicated app for it I would say it would be good, but the web functionality is limited... I've never turned that way and don't think I'll ever try. The iPad would be significantly slower too.
The more I think about it though, the more I think an Android tablet would be better for Turking than an IPad. Apple is just so particular with everything being proprietary (they don't even support Flash for god sakes), that I feel like there would be more limitations. Android is all open source so I could see one of those tablets being much more flexible and better for working on MTurk. The Motorola Xoom and the Droid Xyboard both look pretty nice.
Yeah, ironically I was just reading an article for those Crowdsource HITs and the article mentioned Adobe won't be shipping Flash out on the new Android OS because they basically failed to deliver. Jobs was absolutely right about Flash being top-heavy for mobile devices. The only way to make turking work on an iPad would be to build a dedicated 3rd party app, designed by Amazon. I'm sure some HITs which only require a quick click could be optimized for phones... but Amazon won't put up that kind of cash and any attempt for a requester to build a "iPad friendly" HIT will fail miserably because AMT is already iPad unfriendly.
Well, I think Apple's comments on flash have more to do with them just not liking the fact that it isn't THEIR technology. It really is a whiny company.
Safari is just fine on it. It is only as slow as the connection you have. I have worked many CF hits on it. You can also download Chrome too. But only hits I have seen that do not work is ones that want you to use Firefox or use Flash for audio/video. Other than that some Hits are much faster as you can scroll though the pictures, answer a survey, and etc.
Err... I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about me! I don't make any judgments on why others Turk, what their incomes are etc etc. This is my only source of income. My situation is very different from yours. And my feelings about Apple generally are that I won't buy their over-priced (my opinion) products.
