Hi, I am brand new at this and not sure if this is a problem. My amazon account has always been listed under a "username", not my real name. That has never been a problem before with amazon, I guess they'll take money from "momof3kiddos" just as easily as they will take money from Jane Smith.

I have registered with mturk without changing this, and now, after looking around a bit, I think I will have to change my AMazon/ mturk name. Is this possible after I've already registered? Also, can I change my name without changing my amazon forum name. I visit the discussions at amazon and I don't like the idea of using my real name on there. I also do not want to have 2 amazon accounts. I have a kindle and am on amazon multiple times a day looking at free books. I wouldn't want to have to log out/ log in to different accts all the time.

Thanks for any help. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along- glad I found you all.

    Hey chelle and welcome. :)

I've changed my username on mturk twice. I changed it from "nobody" to another name, and then to a nickname. It wasn't my legal name either time, and nothing happened. I can't tell you what to do either way, but I'm guessing mturk/Amazon doesn't care since it's just your "handle" on mturk. It's also the name requesters see when you message them via a HIT.

Well, I assumed that since this was going to be income, they would need my real name for tax purposes. ? Not that it's too likely I'll make that much, but if I do more than 600.00 I will get a 1099. No one is gonna send a 1099 to chelle, or momof3kids or whatever. I think the IRS would frown on that. Maybe my confusion stems from the fact that I know nothing at all about how I will get paid! Thanks for the reply!

You're welcome, but let me clarify that I meant my username, not my legal name. I changed my username under the "Change your name, e-mail address, or password" link, NOT the "Edit your contact address information" link. The latter is the one that needs to be your legal name. I have never changed that one. So sorry I didn't make that clear before. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION FROM YOUR LEGAL NAME.

Based on what another user is going through right now, they attempt to verify that and will suspend you if they cannot. Again, this is based on what I did. I have changed my mturk "username" via "Change your name, e-mail address, or password" without Amazon suspending me, but as always, proceed at your own risk.

Nobody, thanks again for the reply. what you said makes sense. It all got sorted out when I set up my payments acct. It has my real name but I still have my "username" as is. djolerkv, I think I'll stick with my regular name. I'm not even sure I'm going to figure this mturk thing out, much less change my name to mturk!
