Todays my first day of mturk. I'm wondering for a beginner, what is the highest I should let my Pending Hits get to? I started a few minutes ago. I have 11 Hits summited, 2 were approved instantly, and 9 are Pending. What would be the average wait for pending hits? And what is the most pending I should have?

I think as a Newbie you can only do 100 a day(someone correct me if i'm wrong please) I have had my pending as high as 500 and that's on the low end of the spectrum for some of us. the average wait time is 2-5 days, although i've had some that took 2-3 weeks but 30 days is the maximum before they auto approve

how many pending isn't really a factor. if you are trying a new batch that doesn't have any TO (turkopticon) ratings, I wouldn't let that number get very high. When dealing with a new requester, always try a few and let them pay before you try larger batches. You don't want your "Hits Approved" rate to go below 99. It will knock you out of contention for a lot of work.

Ok thanks. Also, I'm only dealing with people that pay very little, but have high ratings. For example, I'm doing a bunch of Hits for Oscar Smith right now, they are only 02. cents, but I seen he has high ratings. Is this a worthy method? Or should I try something else. I want to have a good approved rating, so I figure that would be a good way for me to build a solid background.

Oscar HITS are good for a newbie and those who need to get their HITS up. Keep an eye out for surveys too...you do want to make some money on here right?!? :)

Redwood HITS are a good one for newbies too and they pay better than the Oscar HITS do.

You will get the feel of it as you go along! :)

Redwood's Basic Caption Reqirement Review will make a time worthy money for you. Though available at small batches.

Try to maintain not to get any rejection till 1000 Approved HITs. This will help you in future to take some minor risk for some christmas reward.

Oscar doesn't reject, so that's his bonus. Redwoods are mindless and easy and I've never been rejected. You'll find good ones from time to time. On surveys, make sure they have a consent form in front of them. These are typically reviewed and monitored by an IRB (Institutional Review Board), so they are likely legit. I like surveys.
