Update, please read the whole thread, Taylor has responded and HE has fixed the situation. I'll be leaving a TO as well, last night when I did her HITs there weren't any. She rejected my HITS saying they were poor quality, then when I challenged her via message because I knew they were not, this is what I received: I just went back through your results. You're right. The quality is good. I couldn't find a way to "undo" the rejection. Thanks for responding. If you submit any future HITs, I'll be sure to approve them. If you choose not to work on this, I understand. Best, Taylor so essentially, "hey, thanks for working for free. I'm still not paying you."
Maybe she will still pay you but just not be able to reverse the rejection. I have had this happen a couple times where they told me that they couldn't reverse the rejection but they still paid me and wanted me to make for sure to let them know if I got paid. Which I did. I would check your account and see and then maybe email her again.
Wow!! I would send a response explaining how they can be reversed.. I almost did those hits too, glad I didn't.. best of luck to ya! Hopefully it wasn't too bad as to not affect your approval rate too much
Requesters CAN reverse rejections. They just don't want to bother or look into it. I asked Amazon and they said they can. Here's what Amazon said to me: Reversing Rejections: In cases where your Amazon Mechanical Turk HITs were rejected in error we have API tools available to approve rejected assignments. Information on how to do this can be found in our documentation. http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/A...rence_ApproveRejectedAssignmentOperation.html If you, the Requester, are unable to complete this using the APIs please let us know and we can take this action on your behalf. In order to do this we just need you to provide the following information: 1. Assignment IDs 2. Worker IDs 3. Date(s) of HIT submission 4. Confirmation that you have funds available on your account to pay for the HITs. This information can all be obtained from the .csv file for the results of the HIT. The assignment ID can be found in column O, Worker ID in column P and the submission time in column S. Also, please note this process can take up to 3-5 business days to be completed once we have this information. I hope this helps.
I did let her know that reversals are possible. And also that I would be leaving a review of her as a reuestor and that I took a chance doing a few of these, since there was no feedback, so she can "thank" me because now there will be feedback on her.
It's a shame Amazon doesn't make it easy for requesters to reverse rejections. It's a wonder why many of them don't do it. There should be a button "undo rejection" or something for them. Makes me wonder if Amazon does this purposely, making it hard for requesters to reverse it. I have 2 rejections that my requesters admitted was in error and that they couldn't reverse it. I got paid for them though "bonus" so they did pay. But I rather not get the pay and have the rejections reversed.
I would also rather have an approval than a payment. Her response: Wow, no grace. Hate to be on your bad side.
I was hoping it would be good. I actually didn't dislike the HITs. I'm glad I only tried a couple though. I had set out to try five, returned three, and submitted the two I was confident with. My response, I thought, was entirely graceful, AND I gave her feedback on what could improve her HITs, and let her know I would revise my review if my rejections were reversed. But whatever. I guess next time I should do the "graceful" thing and just leave them a shitty review without offering an opportunity to correct it, or feedback on what they can do to improve.
Except that's essentially NOT what I was saying. You're reading between the lines. I made an honest mistake and admitted it. Exactly. It's not like there's a big "Reverse Rejection" button that I'm hovering my mouse over and I'm being mean by not clicking it. I have no idea how to reverse the rejection via API. I have contacted Amazon about reversing the HITs and am working on rectifying this. In the meantime (although it seems you're uninterested) I've bonused your work. I hope this changes your mind that I'm an unethical freeloader trying to take advantage of the system.
Well, I am glad to see you are here posting! I'm sure the initial poster will be glad to see that too. Also, I apologize for calling you her/she...
This made me giggle. Also... Taylor Brooks almost sounds like a stripper name. Chippendale's maybe? Sorry.... I'm very tired this morning... don't mind me LOL
Ok. So it took me a few hours, but I reversed the HIT rejection via the API. Katherine, do you mind logging into your mTurk account to confirm?
First, thanks for taking the time to post. Turkers who have been at it for a while have almost certainly been burned multiple times, so the tendency is to assume the requester is scamming when things go wrong. Always nice to hear that occasionally it's just ignorance (and I mean that in the most benign sense) rather than otherwise. That's pretty much what you said. You couldn't pay for the acceptable work done, but would pay for any future work. How would you feel if someone you didn't know said, "Hey, sorry, can't pay you for this work because I screwed up, but do some more for me and I promise I'll pay"? Kudos for that, and working to correct it. Most requesters aren't programmers, and expecting them to handle it through an API is silly. Hell, most of them can't figure out how to check whether someone's already done a hit before, and wouldn't know what an API was if it smacked 'em in the face. Maybe there should be a "big "Reverse Rejection" button! Looks like you're doing everything you can. I have limited experience here - much more at what's euphemistically referred to around here as that "other forum" - but my experience over the last couple of years is that any requester who is concerned enough and takes the time to post is on the up-and-up.
Thanks Dave. This was my first job as a requester. I've made mistakes along the way and I'll probably make lots more. If I can right a wrong, I will.
Why would you insult the requester? If you read the posts you would have known that he was posting as well. It appears to me that he was trying to rectify the mistake. Sorry and LOL doen't make it okay to run your mouth.
Wow how about a bit of a sense of humor and not reading between the lines before running 'your' mouth? I wasn't insulting him in the least.. I think he's fairly awesome for bothering to take the time to come here and post at all. It's called levity. Try it some time
