The following is what I copy and pasted right over to mechanical Turk. I am fed up. If we all start copying and Pasting and stating maybe we should go ahead and get the law involved they can do something. I am only one voice. I suggest you start doing this also. I can't wait for the automated reply they will give to me. Probably something Like I am sorry for this but, we don't have the time or effort to scan these HITS like this. Florian Wahl is the requester by the way. I can't believe you allow this on mechanical turk. This is asking for my credit card information and personal information should I go ahead and plan on contacting the police about this type of scam you have allowed on your site. You should review these requesters carefully when they are putting these HITS up. 0.01$ risk-free hosting signup earns you 1$ Follow the instructions to fulfill the task: * visit https://signup.hostgator.com/hg4/shared-29-1 * if you have a domain, enter it in the field. if not, enter a random one, but keep it in mind (you will need it at the end of this task) * In the coupon field on the same page you have to enter the code: get100percentoff * continue to the next page and enter your billing details to pay the 0.01$ IMPORTANT: please check if the total due is really at 0.01$ * click 'create account' * when your credit card is accepted and your account is active, you have fulfilled the task * enter the domain you used for the signup in the field below:
There are lots of HITs out there that violate mturk policies in one way or another. When I stumble upon any such HIT, all I do is click on "violates the Amazon Mechanical Turk policies" (not that I feel it's gonna make a big difference, but doing so doesn't require much effort on my part) & forget about it. While that's not an ideal response, there's a bit of truth in it. Just my opinion, sorry if it makes you too wonder if I'm an mturk associate
Since the report link does nothing I am going to just copy and paste the text to them and let them decipher their garbage HITS we see and maybe they will clean it up then. It just gets frustrating. The only way I see them taking action is by letting them see this information in their in boxes.
Exactly. I will post their response. I will then send a message and tell them the report link doesn't seem to work, cause every time I use the report a bad link it stays up for ever and never leaves or it leaves and comes right back on to the site. Thank you for contacting us about the inappropriate HITs you have seen on Mechanical Turk. For your safety, we ask that you never provide any personal information (email address, SSN, other tax info, home address, phone, name, etc) in the process of completing HITs for a Requester. HITs requesting this type of information or directing you to an external web site requesting this type of information are in direct violation of our Participation Agreement and Policies. Due to the large volume of HITs posted each day it's hard for us to review them all as we would like to. That is why we rely on our Workers to report HITs that seem inappropriate or do not work properly. I'm sorry but I was not able to review the HIT in question as I need a HIT number in order to do so. If you find HITs requesting personal information or that appear to be broken (disabled submit buttons) we ask that you report them immediately, so we can review and remove these HITs from the system as quickly as possible. To report a problem with a HIT, go to the HIT and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Then click "violates the Amazon Mechanical Turk policies" or "broken" as appropriate. Reported HITs will be reviewed and considered for removal from the website. This is the best way to ensure that the information gets to the appropriate department. I apologize for any frustrations with this issue - If you have any future questions, please contact us again by visiting the following link to ensure that we receive your message: http://www.mturk.com/mturk/contactus Thanks and have a nice day! Guess we'll have fewer scammers going by techlist's latest HIT that asks Workers/Providers to rate HITs. Hope it's not all for nothing & they're gonna really smash the bad HITs..... & eventually the Requesters behind them.
