I was wondering if there are any stats on how many Turkers are out there working? I haven't been able to find this topic in the Forum here, I apologize if I somehow missed it. But Im just curious because there has to be a enough people to maintain the service, yet it isn't as though the service is popular as heck and busting at the seams. I mean I am a tech nerd and I really only heard about it a few months ago by accident. Welp let me know your thoughts on this, how many do you think are out there? or do you know of a hard for sure number?
I asked this once in the other forum. There seems to be no info available on this subject. The closest thing I got was this: "With these new Web-based tools, any business, in just a few minutes, can submit work that requires human intelligence to a workforce of hundreds of thousands workers from over one hundred countries," boasted Sharon Chiarella, vice president of Amazon Mechanical Turk, in a statement. The statement was made in 2008.
Hmm That's an interesting statement there. Because I would wonder how many accounts are active and how many are just sitting there. I would wager MTurk has a fairly small (compared to how many people could potentially us it) user base of active users. But maybe I'm wrong, stranger things have happened.
