I, for one, would really appreciate that. I dislike when hoarders load up 20, 25 HITs at once; it takes away opportunities for the rest of us who DON'T utilize that practice. People can only do one at a time, anyway; I have never understood it. I am pretty much available at any point between 8am and 3pm, myself; I only suggested 10/11am because it's my slowest hour at my normal job, but I can take a break at any point and do the HITs, depending on when they're up. At this point, I'm more than grateful that you've allowed us the choice at all, and I think that maybe everyone should realize that. Most requesters would just put them up and tell us, "Deal with it, this is when you get them, period." Or not tell us at all. So, thanks for that.
Ya, even I feel that restricting us from doing one batch and allowing another may not be a good idea because there will few HITs available and eventually we might not be able to make enough $$$ as we've been making until now. Its just my personal opinion. And yes, even I was really surprised to know that people were "OFFENDED" by your email!
I see what you are saying, and the reason I am going through this is because I would like to set up a set time or times on a day or any days that HITs will be posted so that people are lets say "naturally available". By splitting the batches, If you, riddik78, for the sake of example, are only available from 9am - 10am you would have access to half of the Total batch that I would normally post as 1 giant batch. This would give you the opportunity to work on it and make money/get numbers up etc etc. By blocking you from the, lets say, 1pm - 2pm batch, it would allow those who couldn't make it at 9am (on a normal basis) to get work in, and make some money/get numbers up also. In the end, you can only do so much at 1 time, and eventually, if not already, you have hit some sort of pleateau with the amount you can do in the time the HITs stay up for. As a result, it should not affect how much you can do. Please note that this is all up in the air and nothing is decided on, I am just spitballing publicly with you. I value your, and everyones feedback very highly and try to be as fair as possible. I realize at some point its not going to be fair, but it doesn't hurt to try. ~ Mark L.
Unless you are going to split the hoarders from the non-hoarders, I don’t see how splitting the batch into 2 quals will accomplish anything.
Hey guys... I am running on lack of sleep here so please bear with me. Was there an update on what time todays batch would be out? Thanks!
Mark, I don't think that splitting the batches is fair. If I miss the batch..I miss the batch. As it is now some of us average like 50-70 with a huge batch and others average 120+. We are crowdsourcing, we are not regular employees. There is no leeching...it's whatever work is out there for us to do, we do. Why should it bother me or anyone if Granit (sorry, just an example, I read your post) can do 200+ and I can only get 60 or so done. That's what makes it fair. The work is all out there at once and what you get done is what you get done.
No update, probably no batch today. I have 2 meetings, and not to metion all the commotion I've caused has had me working through it this morning haha. Tomorrow is a stronger possibility, but I will be going to the doctor for myself tomorrow morning so it would not be posted until later on in the day. ~ Mark L.
I am probably going to tick off some workers by saying this but in all honesty...I know Mark is trying to work with us and get our feedback on 1 or more set times for batches to go up and it is awesome and appriciated. However....Will it work for you, Mark? I am sure you have a boss to report to and he/she wants results. If splitting batches make your job easier, go for it. If it doesn't then don't. I am sure you have other required tasks to complete during your work day. So, just my opinion... Set time/s for batches is a great idea. Blocking or limiting HITS might end up causing more stress on your end. I don't want to see you stressed because you have to juggle getting batches up at set times while completing your other tasks throughout the day.
So then let me ask you, if the time chosen does not fit into your schedule (unless you are available always) then you would have no problem with me always posting at that time knowing that you'd never get the work? Again, I know that at some point I am not being fair to someone, but I am trying to be as fair as possible. ~ Mark L.
Splitting the batches also would give us less work to do I think, depending on how many people are on each side.
You'll post them when you'll post them. Either I'll be available, or not. If I'm not, I'll miss the work, but there are other HITs on mTurk. Don't get me wrong, I very much appreciate all you've done to take workers into consideration. Once you've made your decisions, then I can evaluate how I may or may not fit in to them, and get on with my work accordingly.
I agree, giving a qualification to work on a certain batch at a certain time will frustrate more than make things "work". On the 60/40 train of thought - maybe the batches don't need to be set at the same time every day of the week. 3 days at 11, 2 days at 3...and trade off the next week? That way more people will have the chance to work on them (theoretically) but the schedule isn't hectic. More than anything else, I would love for there to be a regular schedule...even if it means some days I won't be able to work on them. I'd be able to "plan" ahead and know, not wonder, if I'm going to be able to work on the HIT.
Letting my sarcasm spill out here but.. Mark, While your at it can we get Medical Coverage and Workers Comp benefits please? LOL
Can we have a poll today if we want to split up the batches? I feel that a very big majority of us don't want it split. Thanks
I don't want to create a habit of polling everything. It is clear that people are divided against it, but it may be better to pick certain times on certain days for HITS. ~ Mark L.
You can only hold 25 in your Hits Assigned. That's not really hoarding. Maybe Mark can lower the timer to help but even then it would get done. It's a safety net for some turkers.
While certain times are better for me, of course, I managed to plan my schedule based off your emails on when/if batches would be posted that day. You have things that come up during the day that may make certain posting times be off and then that opens up other issues. When I get your email on a certain day, I then plan my day. Start supper earlier if I have to, or do other chores to be done when I know you will be posting. I realize others are at work and don't have that luxury. I guess what it boils down to is do it however you see fit and I will adjust. Advance notice works for me
I appreciate him polling us period, he doesn't need to and thus we don't need to haggle him or make his life more difficult. We all just need to vote, and who ever wins... That's who mark goes with.
