Hey all i,m looking to start transcribing like audio into text because i kinda done most the other stuff on mturk currenly available so running out of things to do. Could use some info or tips on the transcribing jobs. Thank you.
First, take your time. I like to to Castingwords but SpeakerText pays better (but from what I've seen they don't have consistent grading). They give you ample time, like an hour and 30 min for 3 min of audio. I know that sounds like way too much time but you'll need it. Second: Always read the style guide and get really familiar with it. Third: Get a good pair of headphones, I'm not talking expensive. Just something that is noise cancelling and comfortable on your ears. Fourth: Start out small. Try a three minute transcription job and take your time. What I like to do is go through and type everything that I hear (spacing between speakers), THEN go back through and format it according to the style guide. Formatting and typing is a bit much for me, you might be different. There are also various programs that transcribers use like Express Scribe, it can clean up the audio and you can use hot keys to stop and start the recording. Also good luck!
Well said Toya! Express scribe is your partner for transcriptions. I myself gave it a try and could do pretty well. Believe me, once you get into touch, you can make real $$$.. Also, these HITs provide a guaranteed source of income, as they never run out.
Thanks King! I just started really working on transcription about a week ago, and I think it might be a good fit for me. I haven't been able to get a score of 9 but all my work has been getting 8's with Castingwords. I've given up on SpeechInk! I'm starting to look for transcription work outside of mturk.
Good to hear you are doing well.... You can get many high paying transcriptions in MTurk itself. Posted by requesters other than the two... Keep on searching. They get grabbed in matter of seconds.
I've been keeping an out eye but those seem to be the only two that have steady work, besides claritrans but I don't really like doing their work.
Toya, keep ur eyes open...I recently saw some 30$ transcriptions , and some requesters looking for long term workers.
