Hey there, I found out about Amazon mturk last month and started processing jobs. I just have some questions about qualifications.

I was clicking on request qualifications in the list of available qualifications and I requested some of them. Some of them say that there is not a test to qualify for and to push the button to request qualification. I do and then the job will say: Not Qualified to work on this HIT (Why?) I should add, that the line is no longer underlined in blue as a link. Just plain black lettering, so I'm guessing I did not qualify for demographic B.

If I click why, it will show one of the below. My question is, what does the below mean (demographic B)? Is there a list of qualification codes showing what each mean?

This HIT requires the Demographic B Qualification with a value that is greater than 5. You do not hold this qualification, and you may request it.

This HIT requires the Already Completed Survey Qualification with a value that is not 100. You do not hold this qualification, and you may request it.

    Thanks guys!

Those custom qualifications mean whatever the requester defines them to mean.

Sometimes they will have a short screen that asks for your age, gender and country location. You will answer honestly, not knowing which specific people they are looking for, and then be qualified or disqualified.

    For example:

If I put up a $5 survey HIT for females aged 18-29, all the men would lie to get the survey and my results would be skewed. But if I make up a name for my qualification, then people can’t easily lie to get access to my HIT.

In the specific case you mentioned, they are probably sniffing your IP and getting the country from that. But that is just my best guess and not definitive.

Thanks for the response. There are over 7k qualifications available to 'test' for. I was hoping for a way to distinguish between the ones that I know I am able to do.

    Hi Rhain,
You can go through all the qualifications and get to do the Take Test Option there.

That means the requester needs you to give him a pre-given code. That is he is thinking that you both have done a private conversation and he passed you the secret code. I think so, so we can't do that HITs until the requester himself will select us to do that private HITs.
